What model is a Road Worn before its worn?

I know that the RWs are MIM, but are they Classic, Standards and then get the treatment, or are they made excusively for RW?

I think the exclusive for the RW's. The one's I tried didn't feel anything like the 50's classics or regular MIM's to me.

It is an amalgam of different models. A little of this, a little of that.

But that's how all guitar models get born, as best I know. A Classic '50s Tele is missing an awful lot of parts a 1956 Tele would normally have had.

I gotta say. Sure are a lot of little ma and pa shops that are not stocking these things.

The three stand alone stores I visit regularly all have them. Don't know if it's a coincidence, but all three are also CS dealers.

I played one of these. Was fully prepared for a gimmicky feeling guitar. If my wallet were a better paperweight I would have left with it

same here, I tried the classic vibe as well. Wish I would have waited to make my red one. I may have bought one of these and saved me the trouble

A look at the specs shows that the Road Worn is closest to the '50 Classic with different frets, finish and pickups. Other than that the specs are the same.

Oh .......... The Road Worn Sunburst is alder........ the blond is ash. '50s Classics are ash.

The only thing I don't like about the maple necks is the ridiculous wear patterns between the frets. Otherwise, they are cool...if expensive for MIM.

I see lots of '60s RW Strats around here, but not too many Teles.

Thanks,

I was into my local guitar shop yesterday and they had a RW Strat hanging next to a RW Tele. The wear patterns on the fretboard were almost identical (even down to which frets the wear was between). Is it the same on all RW's?

If they are using a template they will all look the same.

If they are all done by hand they will look different.

Must have been a template that they're using for both the Strats and the Teles. I'm guessing the CS ones are done by hand though. That'd be my main beef with them. If it's road-worn, I'd want it to be different than any other guitar out there.

Not if they all travelled down the same road.

If you're talking about the lack of '60s Road Worn Telecasters that's because they don't make them ....... only '50s Road Worn Telecasters.

If you're talking about the lack of Road Worn Telecasters ......well, never mind.

The simulated wear on the fingerboard is a big problem for me.

If the whole board looked "road worn", that would be fine.

But all the maple board RW guitars, whether Strats or Teles, have no wear between the 9-12 frets. None. But the surrounding frets on both sides are heavily worn.

If you found ONE guitar like that - okay. Maybe the "previous owner" never played there. But they all look like that. I didn't realize that until I saw a display of RW Strats and Teles side-by-side at my local Guitar Center. The necks (and bodies, but I'm ranting about necks) all looked the same.

and that surprized me. a 60's rw would look much nicer without those unrealistic wear marks. if i were in the market for a rw series, i'd buy the 60's strat for that very reason. i'm not bashing... we all have our tastes. i just can't get past the look of those maple fingerboards.

I played several and only liked one.

Every neck felt different and some had sharp fret edges.
The light weight ones seemed to lack tone and sustain at high volumes.
Some looked like they were cheap garage sand paper relics.

The Blonde one I bought is quite heavy but it has a great neck and outstanding tone. It also has a very realistic vintage vibe and everyone thinks its really a mid 50's until I show them the serial number. The only thing I dont like about mine is the front pickup sounds muddy and weak.

You may want to try a few more out because sometimes they accidently make a good one. Good Luck!

Well, I went back to GC today to noodle on the two RW Teles. Both felt unplayable to me. Nothing like the first ones I tried. Who knows?
