Your opinions in regard to a missing chunk of CV
I recently purchased a CV Tele, but the gentleman I purchased it from did a rather...well, inadequate job of packaging it. When it arrived, it had three bad dings, one of which was really more like there had been chunk removed.
Now, I still say gentleman, because he did send me a small refund to compensate for the damage. In addition, he had given me the option to return it for a full refund, but I fell in love with it immediately after plugging it in and giving it "a bit of a go." So, though I am not a fan of relics, I figured, okay, I got a relic now. I certainly won't have to worry about scratches or dings. However, here's my question. And you might think it not worthy of my worry, but I found a good-sized portion of the missing chunk in the box today, so would you: 1) glue it back in 2) leave it as it is and allow nature to take its course 3)leave it as it is, but hit it with a bit of amber poly 4) other Thank you in advance for your opinions. P.S. I really think this is the best playing guitar I've ever owned. |

Would have to see a pic. If its like 1" big Id glue it back on if its smaller than a pencil eraser Id leave it alone.
Believe it or not all of them play that way the neck with its low frets is very easy to play. You didnt mention how much you paid for it. New ones are $350 now they went up $50 after Feb 2009 before that they were $300.

Knowing me, I would probably strip it with a heat gun, gouge the fretboard with a knife, then stain it and call it done.
Seriously though; if it's on the front of guitar, I would glue it. Back of guitar, you are probably the only person who will know it's there. Big or little chunk? Pics would make it easier for us to give you a good recommendation. |

Thank you for your replies.
I'm going to glue it. The CV cost 200.00 shipped after the refund. I don't know why, but for some reason the dings/chunk don't bother me. I think it's because of how much I love the feel and sound of this guitar. I do take your word, Mark Davis, that all of the CVs are equally good players, but I've read, though, that weight varies (so, I would guess, resonance would vary a bit, as well), and this guitar is very light and just rings, if you know what I mean. Thanks again. |

I think I have the best of both worlds: earlier this evening, I glued in the piece I found, but the piece I found wasn't big enough to cover the entire gouge. Great guitars are great teachers. I feel that my playing has improved considerably just in the couple of days I've had this guitar. |

I will never sell my CV cause its all broken in. Im used to the little bit thinner neck than I usually have and it just plays great. Im legally blind cant see the frets or fret markers so just play with eyes shut and play totally by feel. Took me a couple years of alot of practice to be able to play everything I could before when I could see good without looking. Ive played my CV every day for at least 1-2 hours since I got it 10 months ago. For $200 you basicly just paid $25 more than 1/2 the price of a new one so Id say it can have a few dings and chunks and as long as they arent on the neck your fine. Enjoy!! BTW there is a thread here called the CV owners club where we all enter our serial mumbers and talk about our CV's if you want to add your seral # to the list here is the link. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...s-club-36.html
