70's Semi-acoustic f hole telecaster - What was it?

In the mid 70's there was a Telecaster hollowbody semi-acoustic with f holes - much much better looking than the present Telecoustic . I used to think what a funny looking guitar - but now it has sort of grown on me - never played one so dont know how they sound - but it does have the f word on the headstock so...
Does anyone remember it or more important know the model (what it was called) - I search but can't find it.

No it wasn't - I have a thinline . And i saw one again on Ebay last year but stopped at about US$800 (big bucks in Australia with our dollar not so good at it once was). Now there is a Telecoustic
( http://www.fender.com.au/acoustics/a...elecoustic.php )
but it had a much more telecaster like shape - maybe a slightly arched top (maybe not) but not the sound hole of the present stock but at least one f hole - maybe two.

They made a Starcaster (Pictured below)in the mid to late 70's.Not to be confused with the current solidbody beginner series.
Also the Coronados. Both of these were more of a cross between a Strat & a 335.

Just saw a bunch of Fender Mandolins. Arch tops form everyone but Fender. Resonators also and, like you, found nothing which meets your guitar. Any other identifiers?

What kind of bridge?

Two "F" holes?

A telecaster shaped headstock?

6 string?

Tele shaped body?

Pick ups at all?

Were the tuning keys all on one side of the headstock, all in a row? Or three tuner per side a la Gibson?

What ever you can come up with, may help folks give you an idea of what you recall and give you a model or name. Good luck, and welcome!

Now I think I saw (and even tried) a telecaster shaped, thin, piezo miked nylon stringed semi acoustic in the mid eighties, but I'm not sure it was a Fender and I don't think it had a f hole. I think there was steel stringed version available too.

Memories from 25 years back may not be the most accurate source however....

I've never heard of such a thing. I've only seen thinlines from the 70's. In the 80's however, Fender Japan made all kinds of acoustic telecasters - nylon strings, steel strings, different pickups etc (like the one pictured above). Are you sure it was in the 70's?

I think that's a TLAC-100 model. Here's another shot of one.

Here's one for sale on Craigslist (no affiliation).
It's a Japanese made guitar, seller claims it's from about 1990-1991.

Yes, Fender Japan made several different types of hollow bodied Semi-acoustic Teles during the 90s. Here are a few types...

woodman4103............... you started this thread with a false premise. Those guitars were made by Fender Japan in the '80s and '90s. Fender Japan did not exist in the '70s.

Sorry Jack,

I was there at the time looking at it brand new and i thought it must have been the 70's.
Good to re-visit and thanks for all the input guys - my God - some of them are ugly though aren't they. I read a review on them earlier today (lost the link but) and the it was not kind to either tone or construction - the earlier models but the newest ones have apparently doubled in price to accomodate better pick-ups. Acoustic sound is said to be very thin. It is so helpful to know what something is called when you are doing a search for it.
Thanks again.

Here is my MIJ Fender HMT, that I bought new in 1993. It's a great instrument.

THere was a whole family in this series: steel strings [with both Strat (first) and Tele (came later) headstocks], nylon strings, fretted and fretless basses
