which black pickguard to get?

in several weeks i'll be getting my baja telecaster in desert sand. i'd like to have a black pickguard waiting so i can immediately swap it for the white one. i thought maybe you experts and fanatics could give me some advice as to which pickguard is the best choice.

as far as i can tell, these are my options (through various parts dealers such as allparts and guitar parts resource)

- fender 52ri black pickguard, $30
- 1 ply black pickguard, $16
- 1 ply matte black pickguard, $16
- bakelite pickguard, $30

The Fender 52RI pickguards(2) I have ARE bakelite guards. They also have the rounded edges, matte back and gloss front that I really like.
I have a Warmoth bakelite guard and once I shot it with nitro it was really nice (but sharp edges).
Matte guards just get scratched and glossy.
Black 1ply plastic looks like you made it yourself.

Go Fender 52! but hey, that's just my opinion with your money..

ah, interesting. that's very good to know. i just found the fender 52 guards for $23 at sam ash and that's about as good of a deal as i think i'm going to get. they're $40 on musicians friend (is that the notorious fender price increase trickling down to accessories?) so maybe i should just pull the trigger right this very minute...

I tried the Callaham and like it a lot. The laquer is wearing nicely although it's a bit hard to see in this photo.
