Make your Tele sound like a steel for $80,000.00

I don't care for listing in progress auctions(especially ones that aren't mine), BUT this one is just too out there.
Ebay auction for an Idea?

I can't link to this, but has there actually been bids placed? Wasn't this at 25,000 a while back?

Buy It Now Price is 80,000.00

It's the same auction, relisted. $25,000.00 opening bid, and the Buy It Now is only $80,000.00. The way he described it in the first auction, I thought someone would have snatched it up right away!

Oh well....

Ownership

It would seem that there would be some serious legal ownership issues involved. Especially if this person expects royalties until the end of time.

He seems to imply that it only costs $6 to make, yet it requires some extremely precise metal work. Those two attributes don't seem to go together.

Very risky, IMO.

Hmmm....

If you wanted to make your Tele sound like a steel guitar for $80,000.00, a much more promising way would be to write a check for $80,000 to Arlen Roth, and hand it to him along with your Tele. :P

Entertaining

I wrote this guy and asked if he had ever done a patentability or freedom to operate search. Since getting the patent is a big part of the process, I asked him if he would refund the money if the PTO rejected the application. Here's his reply:

I'm 48 y.o. and been playing just about all my life both in small nightclub bands as well as with national acts too and I've never seen anything like this product at all.
So, if you didn't get the patent, he'd return $79,200? He does seem to have an issue with math, so this might be true.

"So, let's see... you have an idea, with no test prototypes, no searching, and no investigation whatsoever... Sure, I'll give you $80k! Who wouldn't! "

Heck, my Tele sounded like a steel guitar when I bought it!

They ALL do (or can), tonally!

I wonder if he's ever heard of the Parsons-White stringbender, or the Hipshot, or....

Sheesh!
