Paisley Pattern. Thanks Buckocaster and Mkhunt.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/3372672...97156/sizes/l/

Thanks to Steve for the Amoebas and Murray for technical expertise, I was able to create this paisley pattern sheet.

If anyone wants to pursue printing this photo, PM me, and I can send you the actual powerpoint file so you can manipulate the amoebas if you so desire. However, it's a huge file, so it will probably be hard to email.

I've tried Staples, Fast Signs, and few other local printers. Most do not have the capabillites to print large transparencies. Fast Signs said they could print it 13"x17" on transparent plastic for the whopping sum of 89$ per sheet. That would be 178$ for enough for a guitar. They also informed me that vinyl stickers could be made at half the price with a silver solid color background.

Hey, that's pretty cool.

For sending it to interested persons, you can use yousendit.com. Also, gmail doesn't have file size limits.

Is the scale appropriate to the entire guitar body? Or do you have to use multiples of that picture?

Also, in my experience, PP is not too great for printing images. Does it give you enough detail when printing? Have you tried just printing it on white paper to scale to see what it looks like at 13" x 17"?

Too bad the water slide paper is only about 5x7. But you could probably do that in multiple sheets and just line up the edges. You might be able to find letter size sheets on the internet...

If you follow Colt's link, and print the large image actual size it will only be 8 x 10.67 inches and the paisleys will be too small. If you make the small dimension 13 in. and maintain the aspect ratio, the paisleys will be about the correct size.

I would go the with the silver vinyl as you may have a hard time getting the glue not to show through a transparent print. I am assuming you will be installing this stuff over some sort smoothed or buffed finish? If so put some soapy water in a squirt bottle and give the guitar a light squirt before applying the sticker this will give you more maneuverability to work out any air bubbles. Just make sure you give the adhesive enough time to re-set once you're done before manhandling it again. This is how we do it in the printing business.

Here is an idea to look into, it wont be cheap, but I think it would be doable. Get a hi resolution version of the picture. Have a graphic artist remove the silver and create the rest as an EPS file. There are places that do this as a service online for reasonable money.

Places like Kinkos and other sign shops have a thermal vinyl machine that takes a sheet of colored vinyl and uses heat to embed the colored vinyl to another surface with an EPS file. I would look into getting some adhesive backed foil thermally embeded with the colored vinyl paisleys. Most will think the vinyl will be thick, but the thermal version is much thinner than the plotter cut style and can be thinner than a sheet of paper. You can even find a surface to rub the foil over to get the correct "grain".

Your finished product would be a sheet of adhesive back foil with 2 different shades of pink and green thermally bonded vinyl on the surface.

A low dollar solution is to screen it. Get a T shirt silk screen lesson kit and apply it to aluminum foil rather than a shirt. You will need to make a transparency of each color as they will each require their own screen, but anyone can do it with some practice.

But, it will need to be a higher resolution than 768 x 1024 to print nicely...

My ppt file is 15"X20", and the amoebas are the right size plus the resolution is much better.

Custom Fabric Printing

Hey... saw this on a google ad:

http://www.dpi-sf.com/fabric_printin...FQRKgwodCGYi1A

Might be an interesting way to recreate the proper paisley print on silver fabric...

It shouldn't be a powerpoint file. It needs to be an EPS file.

Also, it's only 96 DPI it should be 300 dpi or higher in resolution. Preferrably 600 dpi.

Also, the white backgroud need to be removed. It should be on a transparent background.

This isn't a job for Powerpoint it is a job for Photoshop or Illustrator.

Well I don't have Photoshop or Illustrator, but the actual ppt file which is of full size is higher resolution than the flicker photo. And the background is transparent on my ppt file. If anyone wants to convert it to a better format, they are more than welcome.

I've actually found that Powerpoint can handle some high resolution large format prints when set up properly. However, most print shops are set up to handle more professional graphic design programs rather than Microsoft stuff.

Colt, if you send me the PPT file (email in my profile), I'll see if I can put it into one of the other programs mentioned above. Love the paisleys.

Ummmm...trying to figure out why this surfaced today.

BTW...I have those files at very high resolution.

No need for anybody to reinvent the wheel.
