4 way switch? check. push/pull pot? check. now what?
how do fellow tele lovers.
so i've bought a 4 way switch and a push/pull pot to upgrade my mim classic 60s tele's switching options. i want the baja switching options. 1.bridge 2.bridge + neck parallel (when switched; out of phase) 3.neck 4. bridge + neck series (when switched; out of phase) right, here is my question. which pickup do i wire to the phase switch. i've seen some diagrams were you wire the bridge pickup out of phase and some the neck. i've also read that if you wire the bridge pickup out of phase you get extra noise. another thing is the baja uses a 3 pole switch with a 0.010uf to earth. i'm guessing this is a passive filter for the out of phase option. i guess fender thought it was necessary, is it? any wiring diagrams that people might have will be appreciated. |

I would put the phase on the bridge pickup. If your pickup has a metal baseplate then you will need to disconnect the jumper wire from the baseplate to the ground, and then solder an extra wire so you have a separate ground wire for the base plate. BUT on the baja I believe the neck pickup has the phase (http://www.fender.com/support/diagra...141502APg2.pdf)... so if you want it on the neck pickup then it is a similar procedure to the bridge pickup... there is a jumper wire connecting the ground to the pickup cover. this will need to be disconnected and then a seperate ground wire run to the back of a pot. so your connections will be on either pickup... two pickup wires from the coil going to the push pull switch... and the extra ground going to the back of a pot. |

Howdy, all. I'm bumping this because I'm getting ready to do this as well. If your bridge plate is grounded, would the metal baseplate of the bridge pickup not already be grounded via its mounting screws? In which case you would just need to cut the jumper wire from the pickup winding to the baseplate? Thanks.

I STRONGLY recommend that you run the phase reverse on the NECK pickup.
![]() If you have done the mod to the neck pup that isolates the coil's negative (aka ground) lead from the metal cover and added a new ground lead for the cover as you are SUPPOSED to, you have already done all you need to make sure that the pickup is isolated from the guitar's ground. Why make work for yourself trying to do the same thing with the bridge pup?

BTW, I'd have read and responded to this post MUCH SOONER if it had been posted in the Tele Tech or Just Pickups forums - I confess I cruise those every day, but only hit this main Tele forum once a week or so...
