And enjoy, Sargeslide, that is a killer DVD. Arlen is a real treasure, and we're all lucky he has shared so much knowledge with so many players.
There's still a lot of time left in 2008, and do you have any clue as to what I was referring to, anyway? I own a copy of "Masters of the Telecaster" and happen to believe Arlen to be exceptionally talented. My comment was directed at his recent affiliation with Gibson (who, incidentally, I also have nothing against). On top of that, it was said in jest, like I really care!

I know there's a Tabs Tips and Theory forum here on TDPRI, but I'd like to see a forum devoted to instructional stuff. I remember buying Homespun tapes from the ads in Guitar Player Magazine 25 years ago or more, and Arlen Roth was a well known and well respected part of that group of folks. I've always bought videos and books, some were great, some weren't so good, but I always found something from every one of them.
This dog is never too old to learn a new trick.

Thanks for the heads up on Arlen. I bought both his cassette series on playing the Blues and playing R&B about 20 years ago... and I still have them. Time to transfer them to digital while I still have a functioning cassette player, somewhere.

Arlen is a great player and teacher. Sorry to hear about his recent personal tragedies.

Lately I have heard on this forum about Arlen "selling out" with Gibson. This isn't aimed at anyone, just for common knowledge. Why would anyone think that Arlen playing a Gibson or doing video work for them is a sellout? Fender has never given him an endorsement, nor had an interest. Most of the tele's he has played in the last 20 yrs. are made by small co. such as Warmoth and a few others, matter of fact he started out playing LP back in the day. Gibson had made him an attractive offer to work for their company, and I for one, am happy to see a great player back in the public eye.

Arlen played a Les Paul before he found that 53 Tele, didn't he?

I owe him a lot cause I've studied his books etc. as long as I've been playing. Too bad I'm too dumb to learn it all.

I watched his tape about Blues Soloing last night and will be sure to get this new DVD.

Thanks, Arlen!

+ 1000.

The bulk of Arlen's guitar collection is non-Fender instruments. His first
T-style guitar with the flames on it was a Warmoth, and his 2 current main guitars are his signature model Don Warrens. As far as I know, Fender has never offered him anything, so for anyone who feels he has "sold out", please write to Fender about bringing him there in the first place.

Thanks for the tip on the DVD - ordering it now.

I don't care what he plays! He rocks and is a great instructor, that he uses a "tele" is a plus, but that should be an after thought. His Warren Signature model is sweet. I love Teles but don't play them exclusively (heresey, I know)

Happy Holidays!
