Finally, 1st Tele + Pics

I've been around a while, giving my opinion on most matters, usually amps etc, even had a thread asking why I should buy a tele!

Finally, after immersing myself in this culture and community I got my 1st Tele today.

Jury is still out, as I haven't had time to crank it yet, but it feels like a beautiful neck and tones on my Lightning even at low volume were very promising.

Its a '96 MIJ Custom Delux 50th Anniversary, I've seen a few on the the MIJ Tele thread (Ajay?), and would welcome any tips, comment etc

I have MIA and MIJ Strats, so don't have any MIA /MIJ pretension, just want a good toneful player - hopefully I have one:

Thanks and happy picking.

Is the binding black/white/black? In the first photo, it almost looks like tortoise binding on the back edge, but the next photo it appears to be a thin white binding.
I think I'd put a white pearloid pickguard on it. But that's just me, I love the black/gold/pearl look.

Yeh, Black white Black, the Black on the side reflects in a weird way, the white is fine and on the face and back.

I quite like the SP, but would like to try some alternates, black with no white trim would look nice , I think?

it`s not an anniversary model, you say yours is from 1996, they are still listed in my 1997 FJ catalog and those were called the TLG-70P, and so far we`ve seen they were made for at least 3 years, just so happens all FJ teles ahd that anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock that year.
basswood body
184 radius fretboard, 21 frets
TL-Vintage MIJ p`ups
6 way brass special bridge
came in white too.
Retailed for 70,ooo yen originally minus the standard 20% off list. They show up on line in Japan.

The 7.25 rad neck explains why I found this tele so comfy, same radius as my Strats.

Any info on the pups (good, Bad, indifferent, similar to...worth upgrading?) and Bridge (same Q's) would be appreciated?

Been looking for a gold pearloid!

So far just seen one with a humbucker cut, guess I'll need a Vintage cut?

Links welcome!

I bought the same model (the black one) new in 1996. It was listed in the US as a Tele 90s Custom. Nice look. The gold hardware did not age well and I found the stock bridge pup to be ice-picky.

I ended up selling to a friend which worked out great. I get to borrow it anytime I want to!

Very nice!

I've recently acquired a black body and a blue pearl pickguard for my next Tele build.

+1 on the amp.
