I use a caliper and clamp it on either side of the E-strings. My Strat for examples measures 41 mm at the nut and string spacing is 36 mm.
For laying out the strings you can use a template from StewMac (or copy them with a piece of paper from another axe, although I have never done it that way). I hope that answers your question? cheers Erik |
