Just got Paisley's "Play" CD! Time to steal licks!
I just wanted to start this new CD thread off! Pre-ordered and Pre delivered.
He sure covered all the bases! Acoustics, Bunch-O-Blues, Rock "Cliffs of Rock City" kicks butt! Interesting afterthought about the "Cliffs...", You know how everyone wants to know if a Tele can play Rock? That song is the example of "Hell Yes"! I never had to ask that question, but now HERE IS THE ANSWER! Pure Paisley tones throughout the CD and I'm still listening to it, so I don't know too much else to say. Buck's song would have made Buck and Don proud I'm sure! I've been recording my own little country Tele song-thingy myself and now... I have to work harder. Damn him! Personally I like the country stuff on the CD the most and also the "Cliffs" song, just because I'm that way... Thank goodness there's some great pickers out there for us to listen to! Cant wait till it's released over here in Oz. I think it's the same date. But, because of the different time zone - WE GET OURS FIRST !!!! I think I'll be camping out in front of the record store. Sad - I sound just like a groupie. I heard "Clusterpluck" courtesy of you guys here and that certainly whetted my appetite. I've gotten all his albums and he is indeed a class act - he continues to lift the bar with every CD. But, that's good - it keeps the rest of us reaching too. Regards.

I agree that it has similar distortions and techniques, but hotter & WITH A TELE! Even better! Taking that bridge pup and adding more voice to the licks. Surely trying to emulate the E.J. sound though:)

Vintage this pre CBS that for crying out loud! take your Tele, Les Paul, Strat, es-335, or teisco del rey for matter, tone it up and let her rip! Every guitar is a rock guitar...teles more than any others.
With a Simple, Highly effective & funtionally efficiant engineering design like the Telecaster it's really tough to go wrong. They were/are/and will always be the straitforward & quintessential American Solid Body Guitar.. simple design, extreme tonal versitality, virtually indistructable & just Funky enough looking to piss your parents off....which pretty much covers all the basic requirements for a successful Rock n' Roll instrument/IMHO of course! |

I got it at lunchtime. I stuck it in and it wouldn't "Play".
Finally it started "Playing". I like the cut with Keith Urban and there's some fine licks in that song. I'll have to record the video if it's out yet. There's also a kind of Surf Guitar cut that I liked too. Really liked the Buck Owens tune too. That's all i got to listen to. The sound on the CD is pretty awesome- nice and loud.

Any connection between Eric Johnson and Brad other than influence? He tips his hat wonderfully to EJ in his 5th Gear track, 'Throttleneck' -- straightout EJ tone and runs at 2:35 - 2:41.

It would be pretty awesome to see what would happen if Brad and Eric Johnson played some tunes onstage. Wow, what a shootout that would be!

They played together at one of James Burton's guitar fests.
