Parts is parts?
Ok, I'm about to delve into the world of parts teles. I currently own a parts tele, but feel the body is too heavy, so I found another one from a tdpri member (thanks Lance!). Should be getting that one in about a week or so.
Then I found a guy on HC (a member here?) who was selling a MIM tele neck, maple. Mmm, love maple. My parts tele has a rosewood neck - nice, but not so crazy about the look (re: color combo with body). So after a few questions, turns out he has the entire MIM tele, without pickups - but was modded for 2 humbuckers (professionally). So I'm going to get the whole thing, b/c it seemed like a good deal.
I do a friend of mine's taxes in return for guitar stuff (ah, the job pays off!) and will get a set of pickups for the MIM tele soon. :D
So then I was thinking - color combos (re: looks)... here's what I'll have - Mary Kay white body, MIM solid white body, maple fretboard, rosewood fretboard, black pickguard, modern parts, vintage style parts, pickups (HD and ???). (yes, I'll need to buy another pickguard, perhaps tortous shell?)
So, does it make sense to do the Mary Kay white, with the black pickguard, vintage hardware, HD pickups, and then bolt on the MIM maple neck? Would look good, though the MIM's tuners are not kluson styled. :( Then there's the writing on the headstock - looks like a MIM tele, but really has high quality parts galore? Kinda like playing down the thing?
I'll post pics in the upcoming weeks. Then I have the matter of my "old" body to deal with - will probably end up in the garage sale in a month from now.
Geesh - all the options, all the choices!
