Esquire GT blowout!....
.....I realize a lot of folks here may not consider it a 'real' Tele (set neck, one bridge bucker, etc), but hey it's $399 with free shipping!
Oddly enough, the blue and silver are this price, but the red is $600+. Go figure. -eric

I played one very similar in construction to those the other day. The one I played was black with black hardware, jumbo frets, and a scorpion at the 12th fret. I'm not a fan of jumbos but this Esquire played really nice. I'm seriously considering picking it up now.

I think Joe Walsh played that guitar on their Farewell 1 tour last year. Remember him playing that one on "Life's been good", and he was gooning around the stage during the solo with the "helmet cam".

i bought one of the gold tops and i like it a lot. this appears to be the same thing in a one pickup style.
reasons i like mine: 1. price , it was a great deal (399) 2. its very light, which surprised me. probably due to its extra slim body 3. the mahogany on the back, neck and headstock is really nice looking. 4. right out of the box it plays fine, im gonna put some different strings on it(havent yet it plays fine with the ones it came with) and give the truss rod a crank and i think it will be ready to rock now, some people might not like the neck. its a super slim sg type neck. i dont know what letter shape i'd call it, i guess a super slim u shape. i call these necks speed burner necks, they are the type on all the shredder guitars i ever played, and also on sg's. after playing it for a while, and gettin used to it.... it plays great and i like the neck, but it might not be for everyone. its well made tho and for the price i think it's a great guitar. this assumes they are the same..made in korea, mahogany slim contoured body, set neck, are all the same so my guess is they are |

I got one of the Gold HB Teles and I really like it...
It does have a fairly thin neck, but with the flatter radius, this is a good thing, IMHO...It makes for a pleasant change from more traditional Teles. The only three things I changes were (1) I replaced the neck Dimarzio Air Norton with a Duncan Seth Lover. The Dimarzio was a decent pickup, but didn't sound nearly as sweet when clean. The Bridge P/U is a "Tone Zone," and sounds great with overdriven/ distorted tones - kind of EVH-ish to my ears. (2) Replaced the strings with Pyramids, and (3) Straplocks. In my experience, a guitar without these is an accident waiting to happen!
Overall, the construction, fit and finsh are very, very good - I'd say amazing when taking the price of the guitar into account. Man, the Korean manufacturers have really come into their own in recent years. I've played some Epis, Samicks (yes I know they make for almost all), and others that were simply wonderful. Better, I'm sad to say, than most of their Gibson counterparts. The fretwork is very good. No sharp edges, budding, or other flaws. Nicely shaped & crowned. The hardware on this guitar is not cheap...it looks to be the same bridge & tuners as on the American series (can this be so?), albeit the tuners lack the "Fender" imprint on the reverse. No problems here. The finish looks to be flawless. Kudos. Overall, definitely a keeper, and a total no-brainer for value. Jeez, I don't seem to luck out on these one-shot deals very often (I missed the $400 Godins, eg), but for once, I caught one! Guess even a stopped clock is right twice a day! Later, Bill

that's a sweet looking guitar! I love esquires. and matching headstocks.
by the way, there are a TON of hum sized P-90 options out there.... to name a few: for hum sized single coils (P-90ish?): www.skguitar.com steve kersting hb-90 for 85 apiece (alnico or ceramic, custom wound to your specs), harmonic design Z-90, 100 apiece, vintage vibe www.vintagevibeguitars.com hum sized p-90 (not on the website...email pete) 95 for the pair, and bill lawrence L-490 and 495 (hum free) www.billlawrence.com 60 apiece. all of these should be excellent, read the HC reviews and contact the makers to find out which flavor you want. I've heard the Kent Armstrongs are good, as well as the new Duncan Phat Cats. the rio grand fat bastards and gibson p-94s get mixed reviews, though Nick Valensi of the Strokes gets some amazing tones out of his 94s. between all of these there are lots of cosmetic options available...you might want to consider this |
