lenny,
if you're asking about what songs he really shines on the guitar on - plays some smokin' licks, then check out these: Sharped Dressed Man (great country version) Munster Rag (instrumental - screamin guitar!) Wrapped Around Her Finger (simple sounding, but intricate licks) I'm Gonna Miss Her (again, lots of tasty licks) Celebrity I think Brad is a great guitarist - especially since he doesn't try to overwhelm each and every song with wall to wall, start to finish, guitar licks and solos - he spaces them out graciously, and tastefully. hope this helps tom |

Spagetti Western
Check that out...up for a Grammy
He and Redd V. kill it on that one! Another wild ride might be his solos on Albert Lee's latest effort. Instumental cover of "Luxery Liner" featuring Albert, Brad and Vince Gill trading some GREAT Tele Twang!!! Don't count the boy out cause he can sing a love song...

Let's add "Nervous Breakdown," "Me Neither," and "Make A Mistake With Me" to the list. Twangin' at it's finest, IMHO.

The album you want is "Mud on the Tires"
Quote:
If "Mud" doesn't cause you to want to throw your tele into the garage can, repeating "I don't play guitar, I just own it... Oh, that's Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Brad's wife...she sure is a sweetie... Enjoy, BP is a super talent (and the reason I OWN a tele !) John

"Two Feet of Topsoil" is jam packed with great playing, including a mind-bending electric guitar solo.
Plus it's an awesome song. And regarding that tune from Brent's Hot Licks video, you really need to hear the revamped version he did on his Hot Wired album. Mike |

Lenny!!!!!!!!! You've got to get Brad's cover of
Sharp Dressed Man........ Here's a link to the song on BuyMusic.com.........It'll be the best 99 cents you ever spent!!!!!!! AND HERE'S A LINK TO A SHORT CLIP FROM THE VIDEO from Mackenzie Nellis' web site (he's one of the models in the vid)..........this will help you figure out how Brad's playing the opening lick!!!!!!!! quote from Yahoo's Launch Music website: Paisley's version of the ZZ Top classic "Sharp Dressed Man" was done with a country flair. Paisley explained, "When I was asked to do this project I was so psyched, 'cause I was like, yeah, it gives me a chance to cut a track with like six tracks of guitar on it and a lot of different amplifiers that I wouldn't have...You know, I definitely did things a little differently on that track than I did on some other things that I do, but we still made it a country record. I mean, it even goes at the end (into) double time hoe-down feel, which is funny." |

Although I had seen the "Celebrity" video, and thought it was great, I first heard the buzz about Brad Paisley on this page. In a fit of curiousity I bought Mud on the Tires expecting generic country music with, hopefully, a few tasty licks here and there. I was, however, knocked on my tookus by the playing. Not only were there plenty of hot licks, but many of them were just out of the box. Even a standard sounding tune like "Hold me in Your Arms" had a great, left of center solo.
If I could be half that good.... Ricko |

Sharp dressed man
Didn't know his version existed. Just listened to it and I write this whilst laying on the floor !! Wow, what an absolutely incredible version, full of everything I would like to do but can't. It's almost as though the song was "his". I've been a ZZ Top fan since I bought their first album (and 13 more since) and never dreamed I would hear a version that I would like better than the original.

kinda hard to imagine..
that you might have to go searching for Brad's great playing on any of his CD's..
But I suppose ya first gotta own the CD's ! Although I think MUD is an awesome CD I personally prefer the 2 earlier CD's which have Mike Jones on Steel. The combo of Mike and Brad is second to none..which I guess means it's pretty much on par with Brent and Paul... great stuff from both camps.. This in no way means that I think less of Randal on Steel with Brad on the MUD album..Randal is awesome as well.. t |

Check out track #5 on Mud
Great fills throughout and really nice playin' at the end, right after the "Awe, Play it Brad!"
...The lyrics make an interesting study as well, some good advice in the first verse and a dose of reality in the second! |

I love this thread !
Lenny...welcome to the club !
Each listen to the entire cd will cause you to stop and rewind and listen again, shaking your head ...even those fills or simple intros (take "Famous People", with that poppin' string rapid fire walkdown) within the songs are stellar. Personally, I love the solos in "Hold Me In Your Arms", "Make a Mistake With Me" (the 1st "jazz" solo, tele neck pup...blows my mind), "Mud on the Tires" outro solo, "That's Love" Brad's amps had to be CRANKED ! on that one...oh well, you get the picture. Enjoy...(btw, check out "Who Needs Pictures" his 1st cd next...the intro and solo in "Long Sermon" is pure twang and "Nervous Breakdown" is pure fireworks on a fretboard) John

Invoking the Les Paul vibe?
Does anybody else catch those LP style licks Brad's pulling on "Make a Mistake"? (Man, he's such a versatile player!) That song is so different from what most "Nashville Label" artist are putting out...in fact this whole album is pretty weird for the typical Nashville offering! Plus the lyrics are extremely witty...
Maybe Brad and folks like Brent Mason can save Nashville from the boring antiquated rut they've been in too long? Just glad to see The Opry crowd contributing - in a good way - to country music again!!!

Lenny, I feel your pain...
First of all, I haven't heard "Mud on The Tires" so this is just a general rant. But I'm getting really "Tired" of buying CDs with just a couple of good tunes and the rest are schlock- especially when I know the guy can really tear it up. Vince Gill does the same thing- I remember first seeing him years ago in concert on a TNN special and going "wow!" But- buy his albums and you go "yawn!". I know they're in the "machine" and they have to sell "product" to the masses but I wish they would cut loose for once! Maybe they should offer a limited run pressing of some kicka$$ stuff for guitar freaks.

Nothing profound...
Just want to weigh in on the subject, as the owner of two Brad Paisley CDs... "Part II" and "Mud on the Tires," purchased in reverse order. Solid songs on both and the kind of variety that rewards repeated listening. ("Mud" is definitely the better set. I listen to it a lot, both in car and in home.) And both are chock full of licks that, to my ears, are nothing short of awesome.
