Custom Shop Thinline Tele
Hi
Anyone here tried the CS thinline telecaster? I really think it looks awsome, but I am not able to try it here in Denmark. I've found a good deal in the us, but I would love to hear some thoughts first. My primary concern is that it is too bright sounding? I like my guitars to be kind of dark sounding, and I would mostly use this guitar for jazz, soul, funk and that kind of stuff. So... Any inputs? Anything is greatly appreciated:D Andreas |

I played one locally last year and really liked it. I would have loved to have the money to buy it. This was a light Relic, black with maple neck.
It was relatively light, had a big neck, and I think the 9.5" fingerboard radius. It still had most of the older Telecaster type of twang/spank/sparkle, but it was just a touch woodier or mellower sounding if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if you would notice a huge difference compared to a solidbody if you were to walk into a store and just pick this one up, but I think the difference was noticeable enough that most people would hear it if you were able to compare both instruments in front of them. |

played one
in a shop last year..
was wonderful... did not have the dough for it though, so settled for a semi hollow ASAT Classic..instead was the only affordable alternative for me and happy with it... |

can only tell you
from my very personal experience, I think the Thinlines are some of the most versatile guitars ever..
and are good for all styles.. which again is true for all TELEs, my opinion If money does not matter go for a CS Thinline from Fender.. My , again, very personal experience was, that a US built G&L semi hollow ASAT delivered excellent build quality, superb playability and wonderful tones as well, for a fraction of the Fender Custom Shop prices.. however, having said that, I need my AM STD plain vanilla Telecaster ever so often..."for all the other stuff" or all of the same music with a "harder twang" and more rustic tones..(have not changed PUs, is all standard, and fine with me..) Need both, cant help it.. The semi hollows have a more "modern "acoustic" HIFI" tone, that's my impression.. Both the CS Thinline and my ASAT have that Thinline "old & original & rustic", if you want that, I would try out an Esquire... |

add-on prices..
dont know how it is in Denmark, Andreas, but here in Austria, but guess it's the same all over Europe, even though the Euro has been strong compared to the US Dollar, we European teleafflicted "Americans at heart" have always been paying premium prices for US made guitars..
If I look at the dealers here, mean the ones who can afford to have a full line of let's say premium Fender guitars in stock, they basically still charge the Fender USD prices pretty much in Euros, which make all of those wonderful guitars true luxury items...here, this side of the pond... Could be shipping and import tax etc etc.. And I for one still need to try out a guitar in the shop.. Could never buy a guitar via internet... Maybe I'm wrong.. But that limits me to the "high price" dealers here.. |

I really do see your point. The reason why I am willing to buy without trying, is that I usually save that much money that I can get rid of it without any loss.
Any other inputs on the thinline vs solidbody nocaster? Thanks guys:D |

I love Thinlines and jazz as well. I've got a '72 RI with VV Vibetron pups and a parts Thinline with single humbucker on the neck mostly for chord/melody stuff. I also like darker sounding Teles for jazz stuff.
For the price of a CS Thinline, I'd rather put together a couple of Thinlines with my choice of high quality body, neck, pups. etc... Sourced from either Warmoth, USACG, or Musikraft. A good example would be on this thread http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...ed-photos.html but with a Thinline body on both. Each to his own but this is what I'd do if I had the budget. If money is no issue however, I wouldn't mind this CS Thinline on eBay
