Relic'd CV tele
Hey guys I was doing my usual twice daily browsing of ebay and MF scratch and dent looking for good deals on teles, strats, and/or jazz basses and I found a relic'd CV tele on ebay. I thought it was kinda cool that someone has already relic'd one even though they have only been out for a few months. I have no affiliation with the auction and am sharing simply because I thought it was interesting. It looks like the owner did a good job however I wish he/she hadn't relic'd it quite so much. That thing is beat up! Pics can be found at

Welllllll...I'm not a relic fan.. but at his BIN price you'd be paying $129 for the relicing over the price of the guitar, which seems like a pretty good deal to me. Seems like he put a lot of work into it, although he inidates he never played it ("MANY HOURS OF WORK. IT HAS NOT BEEN USED OTHERWISE.")

Ya doesn't seem like a bad deal at all. I'm not interested in purchasing but I am interested to see how much it goes for. Still I thought it was cool and worth sharing. Also it is neat to see how much these CV's have caught on!

Jerseydrew, since I don't see your name on the owners list, I have to assume that you haven't played one of these. Even being a Squire, with a CV, you get a heck of lot more than what you pay for. You ought to try one. I just returned from Arkansas where I played a CV 60's strat and another CV tele. They were both perfect and sounded awesome. They were both out of the box with zero setup. Granted, there is higher quality hardware available but for the price, this is an awesome deal. Try one, maybe you'll like it.

Is there no end in sight for the relic fad?
I've owned old, well played guitars, but never anything that looked like that. What did he do, drag it behind his bike on his paper route? Hope he gets 80 bucks for it. For the hundredth time, give me a shiny sparkly guitar any day.

Yeah, I'd say in terms of some of the relic jobs I have seen done to this extent, the guy did a decent job, but in the end it is a scratched up Squire. IMO not worth $430.

I would have to agree with most of what has been said. I don't think he did a horrible job however I do think he relic'd it a bit too much. I like the look of a worn guitar, but I still like it to look like it isn't destroyed. I always like the look of a worn finish with some of the body wood showing through and slight aging of the neck and metal parts. I think he went a bit overboard. I wonder what the reserve is set at? If it is low I may bid and see if I can get a CV for less than the new price

ccrnnr9,
If you don't like the heavy relic and what you really want is a CV priced used, then why not just wait for a used non-relic'd one to pop up? They're bound to show up soon as more of these get out there and guys get GAS for something else. V

I really can't understand this relic thing. If someone sells a factory reliced guitar that hasn't been used - is it a mint condition reliced gutiar? Better not scratch it...
What if I should relic my new car? Personally I would be embarrased to be seen with a fake old guitar. No offense, but that's my opinion. Maybe I'm too old. //Erik |

jerseydrew You get what you pay for. I'm not trying to sound snobby, but it's still a Squire.
Interesting comment, the thread seems to be about the relic job My guess is jerseydrew you haven't seen, touched or played a CV.. The fit and finish, neck, frets, tuners, bridge, saddles. & playability and sound of the CV has impressed many TDPRI'ers ( myself included ) - and is being compared in quality to Classic MIM Fenders. The relic job is completely subjective re: appearance.. to each their own.. but has nothing to do with whether is " just a Squire " |

I don't get why someone would take a perfectly good guitar and make it look old? What is the point? Its like buying a bike jacket that looks old so you can just look like you've been riding for awhile. I see guys relicing there scoots too. No way am I going to take my $16k scoot and make it look old. Hey beats me but I like to wear stuff in myself and enjoy doing it. thanks
