Just when I thought I was finished with my chronic Tele-rewiring for a good long while, you guys dredge up this (with those YouTube demos) and convince me I need to put in a phase switch.
Fortunately, I have a control plate with a mini-toggle hole already drilled down in my parts drawer so it won't take long. I'll do a thread on my mongrel UN-Andy Summers Tele when I'm done. |

Yeah, Torsten and I worked together and I was able to find out from a certified electronic engineer that it's essentially the same board, it's just wired differently in the guitar so that it's not a mid-boost but a preamp instead. A very special thanks goes out to Torsten for all of his help with this project!

Hi again Summers lovin' tele freaks.
I finally got my Summers style tele finished! I've got a thread going here to show it off.

Ok, so it's been a while, but here's a progress update on my AS Tele clone:
I just received the body from Guitar Mill today. Man, they did a great job on it, too. I have almost all of the parts, and I should be purchasing the remainder next month. I'm going to bring it to Guitar Center's repair shop to have it assembled, wired and setup properly. But there is one concern I'm having... I sent GM all of the parts, including the pickguard and strap buttons, so that they could make the holes prior to painting the body. They made most of the necessary holes, but they didn't do it for the pickguard, battery box, strap buttons, or jack input cover. Since it's already been finished, should I be concerned that Guitar Center will crack the finish by drilling the necessary holes? Also, I live in South Florida. Does anyone know of a better place to bring the guitar to get assembled? Any advice is appreciated!

that's a nice looking body! I'm thinking of having the local guitar tech/luthier rear rout a portion like on the AS tele on my esquire so I can install a similar booster (one by EMG, since I'm already using an EMG in the bridge.
I say don't let this thread die! It's been way too interesting to follow. I'd probably try to find a different/better place to have the assembly done-- GC doesn't inspire too much confidence and you've worked too hard on this to have little details mucked up. Good luck and keep us posted! Josh |

Thank you for responding guys! Yes, I'm definitely not going to GC now. I just need to find a good local luthier. Let the search begin...
The preamp adds a great level of distortion. It's just the Eric Clapton midboost, but it's wired differently (the wiring is also a work in progress, but I should be done soon).

Ok, I was lucky enough to find a place that could do the installation and wiring, but I was hesitant about shipping everything away. I did some more research and have decided this may be the best route to take.
Has anybody here used the Guitar & Electronics Repair Center before? http://www.fixguitars.com/ The impression that I get is that they're top notch. I'll get the remaining parts in the next month and take some more pics then.

Hello All,
No this thread is not going to die! Mrmorrison, I am very interesting about details on the Clapton mid boost installation. I don't have any idea how to connect what in the tribute in order to be realistic. Would it be possible to go more in detail on the connection: which color wiring to connect where, ... ? fotos, diagram, ( I only have the diagram which come with the Clapton mid boost, but it is too complicate for me to adapt to the tribute. Who can help ? My tribute becomes more and more tribute... Have a look on added fotos. I will come back with more pictures of my tribute.... Next step: pickguard routing job for installation of PU. Ok, I just ordered the last parts I need to complete my Andy Summers Frankentele. I will be sending everything out next week to be assembled and wired. Before I do, I'll take HQ photos for you all to peruse.
After over 12 months of planning and waiting, the finish line is in sight. I'm very excited!

So, I sent out everything last Monday via FedEx Ground. I had no choice because the box was quite large and they would have wanted over $200 to send it via air. Anyhow, it arrived at the Guitar & Electronics Repair Center in Phoenix, AZ on Friday.
I spoke with the guitar tech today and he said he'll be unpacking everything after lunch today (which will probably be around 4 or 5pm for me). He mentioned that the top of the box was smashed in. I couldn't have possibly packed the thing better. In fact, FedEx actually helped me in the finishing stages of packing. So now I have to wait for the guitar tech to call me back and let me know whether everything was ok. If anyone can put in a prayer for me that nothing is broken or smashed, it would be appreciated.

I just finished building an Alembic stratoblaster booster circuit and part fitted it to my tele.I modded it omitting the box etc and fits the guitar. Sounds good to me,certainly fattens the sound,(read the write ups and there are vero board circuits on the net where I got mine) but need to fit the gain pot in the body as of yet.Dead easy to build and cost about £5.00 in bits(thats 5 English pounds)At the moment it is powered externally through a stereo jack and socket with the battery taped to the jack plug,I'm loking into phantom powering it at the moment thro' the lead. The actual circuit fits in the jack socket drilling as it is that small
Going to build a second one to fit the tele bass I'm building so I can use the same lead to power them. I will try to upload some pics to show it. |

Ok, good news! It's finished and is on its way back. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, it'll push it back a few days, so I should have it a week from Monday. I will post pics and tell the complete story, but suffice it to say that the assembly was one nightmare after another for the guitar and setup technicians!
