CASES!

What's your favorite case?

I'm thinking about getting a G&G case like this one:

I've seen them on ebay for around $175. I know Glendale makes a tweed version.

They're the coolest looking, but functionally they're probably about the worst. I have an old one from the 50's and the latches go, the covering pulls off, etc.

So it depends on what you want it for. I love padded gigbags because my guitars are just for around the house. Other folks want those metal flight cases because they're flying everywhere.

I alternate between a square Roadrunner Hardshell (busy gigs, dragging around NYC, lousy weather}, and a G&G Fender Brown Tooled Vinyl with Gold Hardware (looks like a million bucks).

If you're going totally Retro...that would be my choice.

I'm searching for cases too at the moment...
I like retro also, like the pic you post but to buy one I'd preffer a real one and that has to be find "casually", you'll get a nicer one imho... then one may change the interior with new material in a retro colour or even leopard fur :p

Among what I've reviewed, I like the SKBs very much.
There's one that looks sort-of-retro with it's round edges that I might buy, the "Electric Guitar Economy Rectangular Case - 1SKB-6" (1st pic)

( and a padded one, perfect too if you look for soft cases. It can be used in backpack way too, and skb is trusty/rugged for that use, it is the "Rectangular Electric Guitar Soft Case - 1SKB-SC66" (2nd pic) )

I've been looking for a gig-bag or something similar myself.

http://monocase.com Look very cool, and high quality, but are a bit more $$$ then I'm willing to spend.

Probably go with the Fender tweed (like) deluxe gig-bag.

Although, the cases Nash provides with their guitars look rather impressive; anyone know what those are/who makes them?

I wonder if the dry-box guys who make waterproof camera boxes and storage boxes for grand canyon river trips could make a waterproof box for a guitar?

I might be needing a few in another day or so.

hey the MONO are really cool, the straps also. But it is more of a 2001 space adissey look (wich I also like)
Anyway, the MONO soft/padded case looks like the best backpack case I've ever seen! In case it really grip the guitar inside... now that I look at the pictures closer the guitar looks loose... how do they work?

the cow skin soft case is great also, where?

Well, the Peli cases are customizable, as are the similar Storm cases. They come with an interior you can model with no tools (foam cubes you can break). It's not very durable but then you use it as a model to make a better interior with high density foam and you are done. You have to look for riffle/tripod sized cases I guess.

The SKB "1SKB-66" should be splash proof as well as the one SKB makes for Fender (American Standard new case, etc)

SKB makes mil spec cases too, one may fit...

I like the old Fender cases, with the red/orange interial. I don't even know if Fender still makes the exact same ones. Are they any good? I mean protecting the Tele.

Here's a second to the point that the Thermometer case supplied with the Nocasters provide little protection.

The best cases for Telecaster, Stratocasters and Les Pauls are the StudioLogic SL-10 and SL-12. Problem is they may no longer be available. They're made in Italy and were once imported by the Jay Turser distributor.

MONO cases

[quote=Guinness;1402891]I've been looking for a gig-bag or something similar myself.

I have a MONO case/bag and it is head and shoulders more functional than any case or bag I have ever had before. They are waterproof, light, comfortable to carry and very protective for a bag. Plus they have tons of pockets (one the size of a set of strings, another by the headstock for pens, cel etc.) There's a little velcro strap in the main compartment for your coiled up cords--which keeps them from becoming spaghetti.

If you are looking for the best way to get your axe to the gig. MONO is it.

Thermometer cases and the tweed/orange boxes sure are cool though.

I have two cases that rise up to the top:

1) My favorite most use case would be the Fender Incase Slim bag (they came with the John Mayer Strat). I bought mine off ebay and use it all the time. It has tons of storage, shoulder strap, and it is easy to move around.

http://www.goincase.com/products/det...m-bag-cl56063/

2) My favorite cool case is my G&G Fender Olive Tweed case. This is the coolest tweed case I've seen. I've only seen it sold through MF and GC. It's unique, and I haven't seen another person running around with one.

I recently got one of the new Fender-branded SKB cases. I LOVE SKB cases. Very light, but great protection. I have this one, and then my Martin HD-28 came in a Martin-branded SKB case, and then I have a RoadRunner case (again....made by SKB) that's exactly like the Martin one except for the branding.

These are very, very nice. No, not retro/traditional looking, but a really nice snug fit, great protection, and the best latches ever put on to a daggone case.

I'm pleased. Got mine from Zounds (I have NO connection to them at all). Fair price.

Ahhhh, a '72 Tele Custom inside!!

Or maybe a '62 MIJ (1985) Custom Tele?!

Very robust, very comfortable rubberized handle. Quite nice.

Thanks but I'm going to order a G&G alligator-type thermometer. I'm a Houstonian no matter how ugly Houston is.

Cool man.
I'd only part with it to a fellow TDPRI'r/tele owner.
How's the weather over in Houston? Any rain or winds from the Hurricane?
I'm NorthWest of Austin and nothing here.

Nope. No rain. Not even yesterday. It's been weird. That's good news I guess.

Hey everyone, this may be sacrilege here, and I apologize if it is, but does anyone have any experience with the cheapo Guitar Center tweed gig bags?

Like THIS?

My assumption would be that they'd fall apart pretty quick, and that it'd be worth it to spend $30 more to just get the actual fender one, but you never know.

I'll be completing the partscaster soon and just really need something to be able to put it in. I won't be taking it to gigs much, if at all, but I'd like something that won't fall apart right away.

Any thoughts?

To the best of my knowledge those cases started becoming available sometime in the early to mid 70s alongside with the tolex cases and ran up into the 80s. I have a couple of 'em and they hold up pretty well, also they're lighter than a tolex. However they won't stand more abuse than the average case - I wouldn't check one on an airplane.

Have 2 of the Fender Westerns .
When I saw them , roughly about the same time as I was building my teles , I fell in love with them .
In reality , they are so pretty , that they need a case to put the case in , and very heavy .
Perfect touch to your pride and joy though if you take real good care of them . Show only in my opinion .

Very expensive in England , so I ordered mine from the states for about $150 each , and paid a fair amount of duty , but still saved a lot of money .

I tend to use the plastic hard cases from my USA Strats for all that will fit if I play out .

i go along with superbadj and the skb cases. though it is said, that skb also manufactores the fender cases, italways seems to mee, that the real skb are better, thicker etc.
all my teles sleep in skb cases, though i have to admit, these old-style cases look awesome. but i would not trust them, if you´re gigging a lot.

I want the black tolex version of that. I keep seeing knockoffs without the tolex caps at the end (like the brown tolex at the ends of that tweed above), but I want the black caps.

Sorry for the delay in responding. It's SUPER light. WAY lighter than my mid-70's fender case that I use as well.

Like I said, I think that's the best damn case I've ever had. No, it's not vintage looking, but it protects, and it's light. And frankly, that's what I care about.

Are you sure those end caps are Tolex? I thought the end caps were leather or simulated leather. Thought tolex was the main covering on '60s Fender cases and amplifiers.

Well, whatever they're made of (and I think you're absolutely right, now that I'm thinking about it), I don't like tolexed cases that don't have them.

This is what I don't want.

This is what I DO want.

Except I'd like to pay less. WAY less. LOL However, I do realize that I'm probably dreaming. LOL

I want the same, but with the old red interior, and preferably one that was made a long long time ago, back when grass was green or something like that.

I just did a quick scan of page 1 of Ebay completed auctions for "Fender Cases" and saw the lowest prices for actual sales of the case you want for $89, $93, and $110.

SKB FS6

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/docum...544573&index=0

Just bought a few. I sure wish SKB would respond to my e-mails. I'd prefer to buy direct.

EDIT:

I got 3 in hand that day, but the 17 coming from SKB? They showed up today, at least something did. The woman at SKB lied to us. On two separate occasions, once while I overheard the dealers conversation and again, days later when I called to check on the order. I had to cancel that order.

Current FS6s are now made in CHINA, and have the unproven TSA clasps on them. SKB carried over the old model name to a new case with plastic clasps and these cases are not extruded in CA nor fitted and finished in Mexico, at least not any more. This woman was questioned very explicitly on these points, and chose to lie, I suppose, hoping the customer would just take their punishment.

SKB, I don't appreciate being lied to. Your actions stink. I'd bought more than 25 of these cases over the last 2 years; what are the chances I'll buy any more of your product?

You decide.
