Fender Classic Series '60s Telecaster

Hello everyone,

I decided to make this my first post because I'm just to excited to go into the formal "new member sign in" thread.

Mini bio - Married, 40-year-old stay@home dad raising a 6 year old daughter and 11 year old son with autism. At 40 I decided to pick up playing bass (Fender Geddy Lee sig, Classic 60s jazz, J24, '08 American standard P & J, American deluxe P) guitar. I loved it so much that I went and bought my first Strat (mim deluxe roadhouse). Yesterday, after weeks of trying Telecaster after Telecaster (I even tried a Gibson and Epiphone), from a standard MIM $399 - an '08 american, squier, korean models hw1, baja you name it. I finally found what I was not looking for, I'll explain.

My ideal Telecaster was to have been blonde or burst with a maple fret board. What I stumbled upon was quite the opposite. The last few days I've spent some time at my local guitar shop playing with a red classic 60s tele with a rosewood fret board. At first the red didn't sit to well with me. That all went away with the first grip of the c-shape vintage neck. Next. I proceeded to plug into a (used, but mint condition) reissue deluxe blues amp. Wow was all that I say. None of the other telecasters that I tested melted into my hands the way this one did. I love the twang as well as the full sound I get from flicking the pick up switch. The fact that this little gem is actually a positive for me. I find that this fender was made with pride and it show by the quality of the instrument. It sits proudly next to my mim deluxe roadhouse stratocaster.

Here are some photos of my very first Telecaster. By the way, you may notice another fender that followed us home that day, enjoy.

Two great scores there. The Classic Series are some of Fenders best. No need to have introduced yourself; just the pics would have sufficed Welcome aboard!

Nice Strat but the Tele really looks great! I have had a couple of the 60's Classics and they are really sweet. Enjoy.

Welcome, Mike!

Very nice introduction, indeed!

This IS the way it often works with guitars, especially Telecasters. Sometimes an individual guitar, or guitar model, we might have overlooked turns out to be the answer to our prayers.

I am very pleased to hear such a nice guitar has found its way into appreciative hands; it really does sound like a magnificent match.

Good looking tele and amp. I bet they sound great. I like a rosewood fretboard guitar, but I think my next one will be a maple.

It doesn't get much better than a 60's Classic and a Blues Deluxe .
I know, 'cos I've had'em both for a couple of years ... (I started playing Teles in 1967 though).

Congrats and welcome, Fender Mike!

Yeh those amps with the 60's series are a great match.
Turn it up a bit, hit the fat switch on the clean channel and maybe the neck pickup or middle position and noodle around and improve over an idea...
Oh yeh...
You've got a winning pair there.
It may just be one of many Teles in your future

Very nice collection! A word of warning though; these things have a funny way of multiplying... first its a Strat, then a Tele, then... oh I don't know... a Vibrolux Reverb perhaps? And maybe even the two color, rosewood board, limited edition Strat you used to demo said amp... (please ask that Esquire to stop winking at me...!)

You've been warned ;)

Welcome home~

Hey, thanks for the welcome guys.

As for the subtle G.A.S. hint, too late. First and foremost, I've become a Fender fanatic. Not because of the obvious reasons. When I was younger, it was Ibanez or nothing. As I got older I found myself drawn to Fender. Not just the guitars and basses, but the amps as well. I am attracted to not the nameplate, but the mystic of a legend. The look of 4 icons, and the sounds produced by certain amps containing the "f" logo. As of late, I have become obsessively engrossed in the history of fender.

Now while I recognize (and have been around) that their are other fine companies around. I find that fender offers me what I want in sound, style, form and function.

See what I mean:
08 MIA P

07 american deluxe P and 08 american standard Jazz

classic 60s, J24, Geddy

there go those two mexicans again

Also as seen above, fender SuperChamp XD, FRDB, BDEC 30 and a fender Bassman 250/210 not pictured

So yep, I know how one thing leads to another

Thanks PJ, funny thing is. I'm originally from Brooklyn, NY. Yet, I never cared for the Islanders or Rangers. The Devils and Ducks have been my favorite teams since '99 (What a playoff those two teams had some years back )

Well, Mike....maybe its the Teles that bond us. Normally, I don't have much time for Devils fans. But, I'll make an exception. They've been Flyers-killers for years. Maybe it's that they're just up the Turnpike, don't know, but nice guitar, nonetheless. Now, if you told me you bought that one cause it's Devils-Red, that might be a different story.

Thanks buddy, I appreciate the free pass. Funny thing is that I really was not looking for red. As I mentioned earlier, my ideal Telecaster was to have been blonde or burst. This one just happened to feel and sound just right. Sometimes color isn't an issue. Hey, if it'll make you happy. I can have it painted black and orange (Halloween is my favorite holiday ).

I love my Classic 60's. I love the classic Oly Wht, but often wish I'd have gotten the CAR instead. It plays both high and low brow gigs:

I bought mine last October and Im telling you I have had more fun with that guitar than with any other fender I have ever owned. And Ive Got/had a few!
Ive even gigged it straight into my JCM 800 using Volume knob for lead in the old school fashion, and boy!
I wanted and got the Oly white. Its was one of those guitars that after trying for the first time, I knew I wasnt leaving the store without it! Imho the best guitar Fender have put out as a regular production model. I havnt even modded mine or changed the factory set up ( may have been lucky there) Just put some Ernie Ball 10's on it and whaaaannggeeee!
