Baritone/Bass VI

Apparently, in "Hellecaster Theme", John Jorgenson is playing a six string bass. Can anyone confirm this? I always thought he was using an octave pedal, but I've never used pedals before so I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Can you use a Warmoth Baritone neck with a 28 5/8" scale length as a 6 string bass with E to E tuning? I know that the Squier Bronco short scale bass is 30". Could I just use heavier gauge strings to compensate for the scale length, or is that too much of a difference?

I don't think the Warmouth neck will work all that well
with such a low tuning. And too heavy a gauge might
affect the guitarish twang. I have a 28" inch bari neck
tuned down to A, but I wont go any lower on that scale.

I've tuned my regular Tele all the way down to A with the low 6 strings of a 7 string set, and everything was just fine. I say get some thick strings and go for it! It's a 1 3/8" difference in scaled compared to the Bronco bass; that's like what, 2 frets?

The key to good song-writing is tuning down.

I use a Danelctro Baritone strung w/ 6 string bass strings (D'Addario makes the set) Though the strings are heavier, there is less tension, and about the same pull on the neck- I don't think you'll have a problem using the Warmouth neck.

Your choice of tuners may be an issue- some regular guitar tuners might not accommodate the Low E's diameter, not sure. My Danno's keys will fit the D'Addario set, but not Fender's 6 string bass set.

I tried it strung as a bari for a while and went back to 6 string bass.

Anybody try a Warmoth Bari conversion neck with the Fender Bajo Sexto set? Would that get to an E-E?

Sorry for the stupid question!

Jorgenson is a big fan of Danelectro 6SB's, and probably used that on that cut. I believe it is the same scale as the Warmoth conversion neck.
