Since When Was the 2008 CIJ Paisley Alder?

Can this be right? I thought the CIJ Paisleys were ALL basswood.

The older MIJ ones were basswood but the newest CIJ ones could be Alder.

they are still listed as basswood in the 2008 Fender Japan catalog...as they were in 2007, 2006...I could check all the catalogs I have but I`ve never heard of an alder CIJ paisley until now.

That's what I believed, too. I always wondered at how they could cost so much when they just had basswood bodies and standard Japanese pickups - I guess it's all to do with the color!

If they do decide to make them from alder rather than basswood, then I guess that would be more historically accurate, but wouldn't that push the price up even more?

Thanks,

Ive heard the ones that Fender has made to be shipped to the USA have different specs than the ones that are sold only in Japan Fender claims they are made to their specs which is also why some might be alder and some might be basswood. Basswood is almost always quite a bit lighter in weight than alder is.

One thing for sure there are so many MIJ/CIJ's made its really hard to say all of them are one wood or the other cause they can be special order items or Fender USA might tell Fender Japan to make the ones they want a certain way makes it confusing for sure.

I do know when they sent over those Blue Flower ones around the early 2000's those were basswood for sure.

Here is the link from Fender Japan which does show the Japanese ones are basswood.

http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/fender/...69bfl_psly.htm

Maybe a call or email to Fender customer service will give us a better answer.

After I looked at the ad the neck pocket does look like basswood alder is more reddish but the weight would indicate alder.

Compare these pics to that neck pocket and see what you guys think.

Man, I want that! Being broke sucks. Any guesses on what that'll go for? $250-300?

Very true...but there is nothing wrong with having another.

Not every day has an "R" in it.

Ha, yeah I'd love a 2nd, but mines a 2008 as well and it's gotta be basswood it's 6.5 pounds all put together. All the other ebay listings for the new 2008 Paisleys say basswood.

Mark that's an excellent link. That neck pocket to me looks basswood after looking at those pictures.

I think they are just expensive because of the finish. I've seen older MIJ ones go for over a grand on ebay. Which I always believed was ridiculous for a basswood guitar. Until I got this one. You couldn't tell this guitar apart from my one piece swamp ash partscaster on a record.

Plus the only USA signature tele made of basswood is none other than Telecaster God James Burton's guitar.

tbh guys....

i recently bought a blue flower tele body, one of the 2008 re-issues, from the stratosphere (same seller as that), and its the exact same as my CIJ paisley from 2002.

same look, same feel, same colour, same weight. i think its just the stratosphere putting down alder becuase they think its alder. i am positive its basswood though.

i have an alder CIJ tele aswell btw....totally different.

For all I care, they could make the bodies out of pasteurized processed hyena farts -- I have an '08, and it's an amazing Tele.
