Tele pickguard shield. . . does it work?

I found a link to a copper Tele shield for 10 bucks. I have a new 52 RI which is not extremely noisy but could be quieter. Will the copper pick gaurd shield make much difference?
I'm really not interested in doing the whole copper tape thing.

In a word, no...

in order for the shielding to work properly the entire cavitiy has to be a capsule, all surfaces butting each other with a conductive material, copper foil, conductive paint etc. and the whole mess has to be grounded. Cam posted this link below on shielding:

They do work but yes, you need to shield the cavities for it to worth anything. Otherwise, it's like closing the front door to keep your dog (or cat) in the house, but leaving the back door open.

I have one on my AmSer Tele that is shielded from the factory. It did not, however, get rid of the static pop that I was so hoping it would fix.

Here is a link for paint shielding. A different point of view than foil, and easier. http://www.allthingsstrat.com/2003%20reviews/shield.htm

Does anyone have an updated link to shielding with Copper pickguard? I know this threads a little old, but it still came up #1 when on google.

I just purchased one, and I'm interested in this info.

I installed one of these and, while it doesn't by itself make any significant difference to hum pickup, what it does do very successfully is stop the static crackles from fingers moving on the pickguard. For the small price I think it was worth it. In fact I'd like to get a second one for another Tele but the guy didn't seem to be advertising on eBay last time I looked.

Real easy to do. I did it on my Squier using the tape.

Here's a link with pretty pictures:

aluminum foil applied with spray adhesive on the back of the pickguard works well and the price is right!. I have all the cavities lined with the copper tape as well.
