I bought this top of the line tele and ITDOESN'T SOUND LIKE A TELLECASTER.!!!!!
the bass PU sounds like a jazz guitar and the treble PU can cut glass. wassup wit dat????? I think its the high class bridge. I think its the crappy regular bridge that give it that banjo sound.( without an amp, I mean...) any thoughts on this problem?????? jmb |

i really like my am dlx, but an old fashioned twang machine it is not. both the scn's have sweet spots on them, but you need to use the tone and the volume to find them. the bridge pup i've backed the vol and tone down about 1/3 (somewhere in there) and found some cool stuff here, also with the no load tone pot kicked all the way open (and i guess a tube amp)you can get some nice distortion. the neck pup w/the tone bypass sounds nice clean. and running the two pups together, i just back the tone off enough to where it's off the bypass. i did some amp fiddlin' to accomodate these, (backed the treble off). i do like the versitality of these pups and i'm going to keep them, but i do want another tele, one with more---twang. i do just love the guitar itself however. the c neck and the cutaway body are very comfortable. it's an aged cherry sunburst w/rosewood neck and it looks...good. the s-1 switch i really haven't found alot of use for, it sounds cool to "dirty up" a chorus, but i don't really use a chorus. overall i like the guitar because of the versitility and it does have it's own cool clean sounds, i still need a twang machine. which is my excuse for another tele...i have to say although these noiseless pups take a beating at this forum, they are-wow, with the noisegate on, you wouldn't even know the amp is on. amazing.

Yeah, I'm with this write up above, a big +1. I find a lot of views here that are sort of akin to "you can't play the blues if you're white" but applied to the telecaster. "Its not a telecaster if....". So they're different, so what? IMHO, its not about the axe, its about what a player can achieve with their technique, fingers and a host of other factors. Sure, a 335 is different from a tele and sure a Les Paul is different than Gretsch whatever. Again so what? You wouldn't want those guitars for what they offer? Most of the time here on this board its about the money. I am sure I will hear from the luthiers and the regulars but I like my American Deluxe, much better than my original MIM, which makes more noise than a flock of crows at dawn and used to draw comment from other band members about how noisy it was. The MIM also has other quality issues that the American deluxe does not have. Don't get me wrong, I love the MIM too but the American Deluxe is not worse, its better and different.
