There was a time he was into a Valley Arts Tele with P90's and a shorter Gibson scale.
The one in the video looks all fender...but you never know exactly what that neck is unless you ask him.

He's played Valley arts stuff forever. When I was 15, I saved and saved and got a 335. Larry was one of my heros. But it came down to the 335 and the 71' Tele that was hanging next to it.
It was between those 2 guitars because of Larry Carlton. BB King finally tipped it in the direction of the Gibson but I ALWAYS regretted not getting that Tele. What a weird 15 year old I was. |

He's great indeed, especially playing his own kind of music - that bluesy, smooth jazzy kind of thing. Without trying to diss him, he doesn't seem to be near as comfortable in a straight ahead jazz setting (his solo is in the 2nd part - long videos):
