Why do I do these things?
So, I wander into GC Sunday to spend the 20 bucks they sent me in the mail. Of course, I have to look around and there's an American Deluxe Ash there that plays good, has nice grain and reasonable weight, and even sounds pretty good. Don't like the modern tuners, but whatever. It's on sale for $1199 and they have 12-month financing.
I already have a Nocaster and a GE Smith, which give me all the Tele I need. Those are in addition to the 12 others that I don't have room for and don't have time to play. I don't even play well. But the AD Ash came home with me--one more I don't have room for or time to play. It'll never see the light of day. Why do I do these things? |

Here's what you do. Every time you get an urge like that, lay your tallywacker out on the table and hit it with a ball peen hammer. Works for me!

Check-out Guitar Trade - I got an e-mail blast the other day with $799 American Standard Naturals - I think they were "open-box"
- which is something I'd have to do anyway to play it!

Every time I get the urge to spend money on more gear, I take a big deep breath and think hard about how much money I presently owe!
The urge invariably passes! Tim

Since I am a humanitarian, I will PM you my mailing address and you can store your guitars at my place. I will even play them because I can't stand to see a guitar mistreated or neglected.

Everyone has had similar things on a smaller scale, maybe you are unhappy and dissatisfied with life in general at the moment and buy things to make you feel better even though don't really want or need them?
True satisfaction is elsewhere, as your doctor I would recommend you read "the tao of pooh" by Benjamin Hoff. |

Hmmm -- good observations all. Yup, think I'm a sick puppy and the next coupon I get I'm gonna throw away and head for the alka seltzer. Maybe even the hammer (feels so good when you stop).
Still, it's sorta nice to be able to change the rotation once in a while. I've even got 3 guitar boxes that I can use to sell and ship some. But there's none I really want to part with. Besides, Ebay is a pain in the a$$. Guess I'll just start calling myself a collector. You're not really in trouble til you get to 50--right? |

What else were you going to spend it on?
Are you hard up for cash? If not, enjoy it. It's not like you blew it on hookers and blow, you can always sell if you need money. The difference in price is what you paid to enjoy it while you owned it. I just ate a fortune cookie that said "The joyfulness of a man prolongeth his days". If buying this guitar made you happy, then chances are you'll live longer. Fortune cookies never lie. Enjoy, and congratulations! |

Well.
All these guys went to a lot of trouble to console you. Now. It is your moral obligation to get 3-4 of these guitars out every night and play them until it hurts. Suppose you left this money in the bank instead. Do you seriously think today's money will be worth much in ten years? I don't. That's what I'm sayin'.

That's funny, I just went through and added up all my guitar related receipts I had going back to the late 80's. I spent over $30 Grand on guitar gear and I don't even get paid to play. I feel sick.

My first guess would be you do these things because you're single. :-)
My wife's stock reply is, "How many can you play at once?" I love her but I just HATE to hear her say that. OTOH I do like being able to pay the mortgage and the kid's college tuition.
