1968? Paisley Tele
I have Pink Paisley Tele with serial # 240867. According to Fender, it would fall into the 1968 range. Can anyone tell me if this makes sense, and would this one have some of the original wallpaper used?
Thanks for your time, -Doug |

Welcome to the TDPRI!
DING DING DING DING We may have a winner. From this distance it looks good to me. I would love to see some closer pictures. Does the back of the neck have a walnut "skunk stripe?"

That one looks incredible! Bravo--more pics, please! As Buckocaster alluded to, a 69 would have a walnut stripe down the back of the neck. A 68 would not (OK, maybe a January 69 might not, but generally this is true), and would have a separate maple fretboard. All the Japanese reissues I have seen have the stripe.

Can't really tell from that long distance picture. However the case look correct.
According to the Fender website that number could fit in the '68 to '70 time frame unless you actually contacted Fender.

Thank you for your reply. There is no skunk stripe on the back of the neck (see pic). |

Sorry nope, that guitar is worthless. But you're in luck, I'll give you $400 CASH for it. And I'll even pay the shipping costs.
Don't listen to the other guys that tell you that you have something valuable there. They're just messing with your mind. You can trust me, after all, I run this website! (if I used smiley faces it would be here) |

Hey Everybody, I am very grateful for all of your responses. I have owned this guitar since I was 15 yrs of age. It was played very little. I am the 2nd owner. I purchased it from the original owner in 1968, he had the guitar for what seems to be a couple of years. I thought it was a 1966 or 1967, but based on the fender site, it states that the serial number places it at 1968. When I purchased the guitar, the original owner told me it had wall paper from the factory that Fender purchased. That didn't mean too much to me then, it would mean allot now. What is amazing is that the action on this guitar, it is the BEST I have ever played. I am going to add a link to photo bucket with a bunch of pics for you to critique Again, thank you for your time to reply. Doug |

Like Fred said, "Holy Crap!"
I hope you can provide us with a lot of detailed photos and history. I see there are some tags/paperwork in the case. Probably a bill of sale for $425 or some obscene amount. (unlike Paul, I have no aversions to emoticons. In fact, I may have invented them!

Dear Quickdecision, the minutia of guitars like yours are happily discussed ad nauseum around here. Yours appears to be one of the cleanest 68 Paisleys I have ever seen, and is extremely valuable. I (we) would love it if you could post some close ups of the paisley "wall paper", the control cavity, and anything a normal member of the public would find irrlevant and obscure, such as its history, etc. Many, many thanks.

They are rare as a result and as you probably know very valuable. Fender Japan has made them pretty much continuously since the mid-1980's. US Fender (FMIC) has imported them off an on over the years. They have just started bringing them in again this year. The Fender Japan models do not look right... too much silver background, not the right red or green in the Paisley. Bill Crook is the only guy to more accurately knock off the Paisley paper. He makes custom guitars for $2,500 to $5,000 each. They look better than the Fender Japan models, but still not 100% correct. He makes all the guitars for Brad Paisley. And, Brad's number one guitar is a real Fender 1968 just like yours. |

Thanks for the offer. I'd still be making money with your offer, based on the original purchase price. But then, with inflation and all, I'd just about be breaking even. |

I'm floored after looking at those pictures! Thank you for taking the time to post these.
Damn is that thing PINK! It looks like those were more Barbie pink than many of us had originally thought them to be. |

Is that yet another variation on the embossing?
