I wonder what the neck date is. Have you ever removed the neck? There is a date stamp on the bottom of the neck. Maybe when you change those 36 year old strings you'll take the neck off and remove the pickguard and control plate and take some more photos.
Those bridge saddles are technically 1969 saddles, with '68s being threaded rod. However, the switch didn't happen necessarily on 1/1/69 or anything like that. So, it could be a '68 and have the slotted stainless saddles. As to worth? I'm guessing $20,000+. |

That pattern can be found on furnature, curtains, wallpaper, and many other things, and not necessarily in pink. |

Maybe our Scottish members would tell us more about a little town called Paisley and the cloth they made there that bore a pattern distinctive to the village (thanks Wikipedia).
That is an amazing guitar, for sure. |

I know that I should change the strings. I try not to play it at all, and keep it nice. I may change them this weekend, and if i do, I will remove the neck and volume / control knob panel and take pics and post them here. I want to again tell you and all of the folks on this site how grateful I am for all of your comments and feedback. This is a wonderful site and you guys are an INCREDIBLE source of information. I've got paisley on the brain and am making silly mistakes.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program of talking about Doug's '68 Paisley. I don't know much, but I would agree that guitar is in the $20k+ range.

I guess those Japanese Paisleys are closer to the original color than any of us gave them credit for.
That is an amazing tele, and I am sure you could sell that instruments fairly quickly on the internet for 18, 000$. Also, if you were patient, I bet you could fetch over 20,000, and possibly evern closer to 30,000$ if the vintage market continues to skyrocket over the next couple years. If I was to ensure it, I would insure it for a solid 25,000$. Beautiful guitar, you do realize we will hound and pester you for continual picture uploads and scans. That is the pinkest original Fender paisley guitar I have ever seen. Simply Amazing! I want one. |

Here's a four-string cousin
quickdecision: what a great Tele. It just dawned on me to link to a photo of an original paisley Tele bass that I took at a friend's house in suburban Chicago recently. With the large amount of positive feedback and interest from fellow TDPRI'ers to your original post, I thought I'd throw this pic in to keep the juices flowing.
http://fenderforum.com/userphotos/in...ml?recid=56112 The photo shows my friend Steve (a forum member here on TDPRI) playing our friend Todd's original paisley Tele bass. I hope my url link works OK. Both your Tele and my friend's Tele bass look much more purple than my pepto-pink CIJ reissue paisley guitar. |

I agree both these excellent shaped paisleys we've seen in this thread have a bit more purple to them than the CIJs. But still, these fine, almost mint examples have me believing these guitars are infact pink paisley and not red like some have though because of what Fender originally named them. |

Quick Decision's photos are not color balanced and are too pink. (no disrespect intended, I know if I don't have my monitor set to Adobe std., and my pics from my digital camera are not color balanced they turn up looking odd when posted on the interweb thingy). QD we all appreciate your many postings of this truly outstanding specimen!!! So, please don't take this the wrong way. I think the originals have more red in them than most of what's been posted. The Blue Flower tele's were more of a somewhat muted aquamarine color than bright blue.

What would be cool is to take a pic of his well-preserved original next to one of the new ones. Then, we'd have a really nice reference. |

That guitar is stunning. For your reference, I have a 1969 Tele with serial no. 244760, neck date April 1969.
I see the original bill of sale is from Hilton Music in NY. That brought back memories--I played in a band of mostly Albany State students from 1973-1977, and we used to rent Shure Vocal Master PA systems from Hilton whenever we did a gig. |

Thanks... Actually the tag that is with the guitar is for just having some service work. I was attending college in Troy, and Hiltons had a great reputation for their guitar work. The guitar was originally purchased from a shop in Glens Falls N.Y. called Triads. I am unsure if they are still in business or not. Sure PA systems are / were awesome. What was the name of your band? I might have heard you. Do you have a picture of your guitar posted here? I would like to see it. |
