Newbie introduction
Hello,
Just found the site a couple days ago, and I have been reading posts on here every since. I am a beginning player, do not know why at 44 I thought I needed to learn to play the guitar. Well, I always wanted to, tried half hearted a couple times and always give up. Now its at a point in my life where I made a stand that this is something that is going to happen. Already found a good guy to teach me who has a lot of patience. Been playing acoustic as that is all I have, and I am ready to buy electric now. I tried an Affinity Butterscotch, and had to send it back, as it had a few issues that I could not deal with. Please do not get offended by that, I now know that a lot of people like the Affinity models. I have always liked the Telecaster but being financially embarrassed I can not afford to buy one of the nice ones. Before I found the site I saw Rondos music site and I thought I would take a chance and I ordered a vintage white SX. It has not gotten here yet, but I searched the site and found a lot of messages about them after I ordered it. I was hoping that it would at least give me a foundation to build a good guitar from. I have been looking at all the posts on building Telecasters and that is what I plan to do soon, but with the prices that the SX sells for, I think I might be wasting my time. Every hobby I have gotten into, I go head first, and somehow I always want to do it the hard way, and this looks like it may happen here also. I need to learn to play and keep on playing instead of building guitars, collecting guitars and searching about guitars. Hopefully this site and the new SX will help me do that. I had back surgery the other day, and the Dr. has me out of work for a few weeks, so all I have to do is look on the net for guitars. Playing right now is limited to a few minutes at a time, it gets a little painful after that, but I have a great opportunity to research while I am out of work. I am sorry about the long post, but I wanted to introduce myself and let you know something about my crazy self. I think I have been bitten by this Telecaster bug, as it is all that I am interested in playing. Does anyone know a good source to learn about all the different Telecasters? I have read the entire post about the Classic vibe, and kinda hate that I ordered the SX now as I had no idea the Classic was available. But right now that is still out of my price range for awhile anyway, so I will deal with the SX. Some call me cheap, I call it financially embarrassed, and why spend more now when I have no idea if I will stay with this new hobby or not. I have a lot to learn about the Telecasters, and hopefully I can learn it here. Thanks Ron |

A very warm welcome from another newbie!
As a uni student, I know and understand the term "financially embarrassed" very well! This place is, as I have discovered over the last couple of days, tele heaven! Im sure there are a few web-based recources out there about the history of the tele (perhaps someone else can point you in the right direction), but I think your best bet would be to experience the various models yourself. Go out to you local guitar centre and go nuts... Hop on ebay... check out the variety on offer. Compare and contrast. Knowledge will come with time. Pretty soon you'll know teles like the back of your hand! Exciting, isnt it? Cheers! Chris. |

Hey play loud don't know if I said hello when ya first joined but "Hello" again......
Use that feature.....It has helped me out so manty times and its much quicker than waiting on a repsonse....but if you still need answers to ?'s you may have post up..... And TeleRon..I meant no disrespect in my reply....please don't take me the wrong way...What I mean by using the search is that say you want to know how to trouble shoot a tuning problem...you can just put in "tuning problem" or "tuning and intonating" and you will get alot of info..... When I assembled my parts guitar and it came time to stain it...thats what I did...."staining a guitar" which lead me to a great thread about Minwax water based stain.......which helped me in my build. ![]()

Thanks for the replies, and Southern-ILL it was not a problem, I have been searching for three days on all kinds of tele stuff, but when I found this place it really looks like it all is in one place. I just thought their may be a thread that was posted on all the different models, different dates and history information. I am finding more every time I visit the site. Your parts guitar turned out great, and that is one more question I need to ask? By looking at it and not knowing much about teles yet, I would think that was a Custom? Is that correct?
Thanks Ron |

Thanks......Pickups are GFS with a Hot alnico LiverPool in the neck and a 62 Hot Alnico in the Bridge.I have posted some hack-a-billy clips of it here.....they are horriable sounding and compressed but it will give ya some idea of these cheaper pickups.....they are pretty quite and made well....I have no need of replacement right now.....
I like posting pics....but I am guessing its getting old seeing this mutt.....Gotta get a new build going when kids get back to school. |
