Highway one and a new member.

Hi there, I've been searching the site for a while, and thought it would be a good idea to post some pictures of my guitar.

It's a 2004 highway one, all stock (so far) and I am planning to upgrade it with lollar special pickups, glendale saddles (not sure which ones yet) and vintage style tuners.

I've been looking for other pictures with highway one wear on the "nitro" finish, as mine has a little bit of arm wear, some body wear, and a few dings and scrapes.

Congrats on the new guitar and welcome to the forum. I love the Highway 1s and IMO they are the best value for the dollar that Fender has going. I've had two of them, a Honey Blonde/Maple and a Sunburst/Rosewood and really liked them both. The finish on them is really delicate and wears easily. I upgraded the blonde with compensated brass saddles, a black guard and Fender locking tuners and it was SWEET. Doing the upgrades I fairly lightly hit the body with the tools I was using and put a couple of dings in her.

Black pickguard, eh?

I switched my sunburst Highway One like yours from the stock white to the ivory of the Highway One "Upgrade".

From Stew-Mac, you can get the Gotoh "kluson" vintage tuners and the conversion bushings. The result looks great.

I've got the Callaham enhanced vintage brass 3 barrel saddles on there now, added after the picture. I like the fretsize of the pre-upgrade; the later version is way too big. Likewise your pickups are better than the later, way overwound ones. Those I had to change, I've kept the stock pups on the pre-upgrade.

I also put the press fit machine jack cup from Glendale Guitars on this H1, and Dunlop strap locks. You will not believe how much lighter in weight your headstock will feel with those Gotoh "klusons".

Welcome aboard HWY1! Nice looking Tele, and I see you've got a pignose too!. I used to have one of those, wish I had it now.
(Good to see a teenager with such good taste in guitars.)

do you need the conversion bushings to install the gotoh kluson style tuners? also, is it worth it to get staggered tuning machines?

You do need to get the conversion bushings seperately, search stewmac.com for them you'll see they supply different sizes.

Welcome from a fellow newish member, and congrats on a beautiful guitar.

I think your finish looks great--looks like a premium light relic job that some folks would probably pay major $$ to the Custom Shop to achieve!

I have a 2003 HW1 sunburst finish with a rosewood board. I put OC Duff special stock pups in mine. Man is it a sweet guitar now. I am also planning on throwing on some klusons and glendale bridge and saddles. I took my stock white guard off and put a custom leather guard on it.
You'll love the HW1, and the finish ages amazingly. You'll polish the areas you touch, and rip off the finish whereever you ding the thing.

Yes, you need those conversions. I like the non-staggered 0648s because they cost about half of what the staggered ones cost, no other reason. The string tree will be chrome next to the nickel tuners, but you could spray tint or replace the tree. Once the string tree hole is there to deal with, I stop worrying about staggereds.

The money you save goes a long way toward those Callaham Enhanced vintage brass saddles, or steel if you prefer. The Glendale original slant and tilt brass compensated barrel saddles are still on special as well, and usually Dale does free shipping to the 48 states.
