John5 talks Teles... again

http://www.guitarworld.com/article/john5_gear_tour

He shows off his collection, talks some history with only one slipup (I think), and shreds for the camera. Features hella nice '53 and '54 guitars.

yes - amazing collection

the most amazing thing was , at the end, he decided to not pick up a '50s or 60s tele , but instead plays his John5 w/ humbuckers - using really massive gain - and taps / shreds / sweeps

he lost me there

He sounds very excited when he says: "it's just one of the greatest guitars I've ever played in my life". Doesn't he. -.-

Another sad point - I've heard he can chicken pick / play country pretty convincingly - he was supposed to be a session ace. It would have been nice to hear him play some tele spankin' country ! Regards.

I like the way he just sits down on the floor to open the cases.

Was the camera person a 5 year old?

Around 2:05, second clip...
A doubleneck J5 signature?????? Next to a J5 in Buck Owens colors...
Great stuff, irritating camerawork... and all the time I'm thinking of Spinal Tap.

That kind of camera work is what ruins a lot of documentary work. Great collection, though. It's nice to see someone who conservatively digs old guitars and liberally digs new designs. Decent chops too.

I'm guessing he has a second Jack Russell terrier, and they strapped the camera to its back.

Don't even look at that one!

The solo at the end sounded more like a high-tech Nigel solo than Mr. 5 would care to know. Nice shirt BTW.

Why would anyone think he would play any country licks? That stuff is mostly for his fan base, not for we old farts. He's playing to his audience, not to us. I'm just glad he's on our side. Lord knows how many kids he's kept from slashing tires and breaking windows because they picked up his guitar instead.

Thanks for posting that, esteban!

Dig it! I have a heavily modded J5 Tele and I love the layout.

He's a tele-holic for sure. It doesn't matter to me what kind of music he plays, I dig him. I'm sure when the Guitar World cameras aren't on, he's laying down some country licks ala his days with KD Lang.

From what I hear, Lester Polfus is quite impressed with Mr. Lowry.

Not quite sure what you mean, does John 5 also play Les Paul's in addition to his Tele's?

During that "shred" sequence I keep expecting a voice to appear in the background saying "JOHNNY!!!! TURN THAT GUITAR DOWN AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO GO HOME!!!! IT'S TIME FOR DINNER!!!!!" followed by him saying "IN A SECOND MOM...I'M RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A VIDEO"

That's an impressive Tele collection though!!

John Lowry (aka John 5) got up on stage with Les Paul to play. He played well enough that Les Paul said that he's invited up on his stage any time he's in town.
