Koa Telecaster, anyone?

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I did a search for 'koa' and nothing came up.

Anyone have the Special Edition Koa Telecaster? It seems very similar to the Lite Ash model but with different materials. There were common complaints about the fretwork on Harmony Central but I put more stock into what TDPRIers have to say.

Also, according to Fender's specs it's a Koa capped basswood body. On average, would that mean that these guys are (supposed to be) a bit lighter than alder?

Bueller? Anyone?

Welcome telo.

I believe the search doesn't work on words with less than four characters. There are several Koa Tele's around here. I don't know about weight, but all seem to agree that they are beauties.

Yeah, use the Google search box on this site.

Anyway, the Koa has basically the same specs as the Lite Ash (apart from the body of course) but for twice the dough. That might be hard to motivate. The Koa would probably sell better if it was MIA or MIM, even if the price would have to increase a bit.

I played one and did not like it. I much prefer the Lite Ash Tele which is also made in Korea. I think the Koa looks nice but doesn't sound so great!

These come with Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro pickups, I would have thought they would have some good sound. I saw one the other day and it sure was purty!
It made me want one! I guess now I will have to hear one first.

Thanks,

I was sort of confused when I first read your post because every site I have looked at that describes this guitar list them as an alder body with a Koa top but Fender.com does indeed state that they are "a koa venneer atop a basswood body."
