Saw that - pretty reasonably priced for individual pieces.
Note that bodies are reportedly compatable with Fender/Fender licenced necks. Not familiar with Xavier guitars but am very satisfied with GFS pickups, bridges, and tuners. I suspect a guitar or guitar neck/body are likely to find their way to my house. Jim

I calculate it would cost about $320 to put together a telecaster from individual GFS parts whereas they're selling complete ones for $170. Plus I assume there is some kind of set up done on the guitars before they ship. Surely the parts they are selling are not the same as the parts in the complete guitars. I wonder what the difference is?

Cool. Too bad, though, they don't come in lefty models. I'm wanting to do a build for my oldest son who's left-handed. I may snap up a neck and body for my youngest son, however, since his grad present next year will by a guitar I mike for him. Gotta love those prices!

On their site, where do you find finished ones with all the parts? Are these pre-assembled or kits?
Many thanks in advance, Ward

I've ordered a strat and tele body, along with a couple of necks -- both bodies in Surf Green. Going to to a tele build for my son. The strat's for me

Some folks would be perfectly happy driving a Chery or Brilliance, and not care about the difference between it and a car that'd be certified in the USA.
I'm not sure I could ever shake my concern about whether the body was actually spec'd right, or made out of the right quality wood. I guess that's the correlation of saying the body wood or finish doesn't matter that much, then to some it doesn't matter where it came from, either. This should hurt Stratosphere; and every other import body purveyor besides GFS. This is clearly different than that big batch of blowout stuff Jay had a while back. I too am intrigued by whether it isn't easier to buy an SX or Xavier and just e-bay everything you don't need. You'd have the comfort of knowing it made up into a guitar before you got it, at least. I guess with so many guitars on hand, so each future one has just gotta be nicer than this. I've got a Squier for every day of the month, so why this?

I have been reading everything about GFS and Rondo for months...both here and on their respective websites...til my eyes glaze over! Believe me, I seriously considered everything.
But living in Canada: shipping, duties, customs, fees quickly make it a losing proposition...not to mention buying something sight unseen. I can go into the local dealer - he has paid the shipping, customs, duties, fees, and still matches the street prices you see at Musician's Friend on Fenders... So, the Squier Telecaster Standard Telecaster was a no-brainer for me at $199.99 out the door! I am so old, that I was hanging out in the Fender and Gibson shops in the 50's and the 60's. With CNC and the steep learning curve displayed by the Aisian factories, I would put the Indonesian Fenders up against the "average" Fender I held in my hands in the early 60's...as to fit and finish, especially in the neck to pocket fit. With a free setup, my Tele is gig worthy as is, an incredible value. I will play it stock, slowly upgrade as my budget permits. |
