WOW. I just emailed Jay about it, I cannot wait to get my stinking paws on a couple of those. Everything GFS does is top class, and they have ALWAYS been cool to me. Forget that Squier Classic Vibe, I want the Xavier! The Daphne blue!

I wish I had some disposable money to spend on some Xaviers. I am hoping a wedding gig in August happens and then maybe I'll get a Dream180 equipped XV600. I already have a killer partscaster and a strat style,so I need a humbucker guitar.

I figured you Tele guys would drool over these new ones Jay has coming out. Right in between the Rondo SX and Squiers

Better than Rondo Sx because of the GFS pickups and parts, which are excellent, and better than Squier for the same reason, plus price.

I wanted to get a more Gretschish sound and push my V32 amp a bit more than single coils can. I can't get into Les Paul styles. I can't believe nobody else is interested in these new models considering the hype on the Squier 50's Vibe model which this comes close to for way less.

I don't know about the first statement, but the second is true for sure. I have dream 180's in my squier custom and have them switchable from series/parallel and it's the best of both worlds. It's my #1 at this point.

Man, those necks are chicken fat yellow. Are they supposed to look "vintage" or something?

bluescube:

Any info on body construction for the solid color models? Laminate like thinlines or solid 3 piece like the ash (and I assume sunburst per the pic)?

Bodies/necks look a lot like the Rondo SX but string thru holes appear to be further back to work with the vintage bridge.

Thanks.

Jim

Jay is supposed to have them online sometime this afternoon (June 26th).

From Jay's mouth, teh poplar refers to the solid body strat styles coming out too.

Quote:
have to say (I'm kind of biased) that my ass-kicking factory visit last March REALLY produced results- I'm pretty pleased with the attention to detail this time around- last batch we had some well documented niggles- some F hole sloppiness, a few things just not perfect- We're really clean and tight on this order so I hope everyone has a far better experience this time around.

Also should have the necks and bodies up tomorrow. Also the "Made in Mexico" spaced trems with our full sized STEEL trem blocks for $35!

And a word about wood- We went with "poplar" for this order- we got a hold of clean, white, lightweight, very dry Poplar. Beautiful wood, machined like a dream, finishes like glass- Many other companies, even early Xavieres use Basswood, "Lindenwood", Agathis etc.- dark colored, heavy, dead wood. Some others use "Alder" which is not the firm, resonant Northwest Alder used by fender but "Nepalese Alder"- which is excrutiatingly bright. (Those of you with Asian made "Alder" strats can attest to this. The Ash we chose was picked for weight- 8 lb teles NOT 11 lb teles.

So while I cannot say that what we are using is the same wood as what the far more expensive American guitars are made of- I think we found a resonably priced wood that really feels and sounds like a good vintage guitar, and of course I'll await your reviews to see if we've achieved that.

Also- we went with 500K pots on the 620, 820 and 870 guitars- cause our handwired pickguard shop does 60% 500Ks- which makes them louder and brighter- If you want a little more vintage feel and a slightly rounder tone just put a note on your order and we'll throw a free 250K pot in the case for you.
I really like how Jay runs GFS as a guitar geek nut instead of a corporate bean counter. He knows what we want in a guitar and trys to deliver.

does anyone know if you can exchange necks with these bodies? allparts, MM, etc? I ask because I want a vintage radius. This seems like a killer deal.

I think these are standard "F" size bolt-on necks.

Sweet Vintage Styling, Quality components, Hand picked woods, hand dressed frets, hand cut GRAPHITE nut… Heck we’ve already upgraded the HELL out of this thing!

The XV-820 takes the classic single cutaway guitar to a whole new level of quality and value. NEVER has there been a guitar at this price with this level of playability, hand craftsmanship and amplified tone.

We hand pick only the driest, lightest Poplar and Alder. No glue-hogs for us- only 3 piece bodies, finished in super hard, super thin, super light Catalyzed Urethane, hand buffed to a deafening gloss. PLEASE don’t compare these to other sub$200 guitars- compare them to the BEST out there.

We’ve installed only the best- Our own steel vintage baseplate with chrome SOLID BRASS saddles, Full sized Alpha potentiometers for smooth response, a FULL RETAIL GFS “Fat TC Alnico” pickup in the bridge and the matching “Classic TC Alnico” at the neck. The neck pickup is RW/RP so the middle position is noise canceling.

Man 'o man. I put $20 bucks down to hold a Classic Vibe Tele for me when one comes in but now this has got my head reeling a little bit.
