New Thin Skin '52 Tele in the house!!
New Thin Skin '52 Tele in the house!! The special part is that this is an early wedding present from my fiancee (proof indeed she is the right woman!) More on that later, but now back to the Tele : )
Regardless of how one might feel about the "Thin Skin" hoopla, believe when I say this is one of the finest off the rack Fender Teles I have ever played. The 9.5 radius U shaped neck and 6105 frets feel perfect under my hands (the main reason I chose this model) and the 'custom shop pickups' sound great. I feel no need to mod this Tele, it is a tone machine! A quick word about my first experience with Wildwood Guitars...they are great. The Tele came in two days, spotless clean with fresh strings and a great setup. It is ready to roll! I have played just about every Tele in Fender's lineup 5 times over. This is the perfect Tele for me! ![]()

Congrats...Im quite jealous... Wildwood has excellent customer relations reputation...If I buy online Im going through them...Ive said thios about the Thin Skins before on another thread, but ill say it again...the Thin Skin Nitro finish..LOOKS GREAT! Im not sure if its more resonant or affects the tone in any large way..but they look SOO much better than the thick finishes like on the American Standards....Hope you bring each other a lifetime of enjoyment...(The new wife and the new guitar!)

About the U-shaped neck on '52 'Thin Skin' Tele
I'm living in Brazil and I have a '62 Telecaster Custom 'Thin Skin', purchased from Wildwood (Steve Masple is a great guy). The guitar weights 7.70 lbs. ans is very resonant, even unamplified. The C-shape neck is very comfortable and perfect for my hand's size. I'm wanting a '52 Thin Skin, but I'm scared about the U-shape neck, because I don't have long fingers. My hands are normal size. What do you think? The U profile will be a discomfort in playability? I use .011-.050 string gauge.

hi longordo,
I'm honored you chose my thread for your first post! :) I don't think it would be uncomforatble for you to play, but maybe others can chime in as well. My other Tele is a MIM Standard with the modern C shape. I think my 52 with the U shapre might actually be more comfortable than my standard. The U shape is not huge IMO. It just seems to fill my hand a little more, but in a good way. One thing to consider, does your 62 have the 7.5 radius? That might be another factor along with the U shape. |

Thank you.
No. The '62 has a 9.5 radius. This may to facilite the playability on the '52, sure? Best regards. Quote:

Congrats!
I bought the same guitar for my first Tele and could not be happier I never thought I would love playing a Tele so much. I bought the Thin Skin over the standard '52RI for the modern neck specs. I would love to get the '55 Thin Skin someday. Enjoy!

Man, that is one geat looking guitar! Ive been going back and forth for months on which Tele to buy next and it's mainly been down to the Hot Rod and the "regular" 52 RI. I had looked at the thin skins but didn't really see what the big deal was...until now....lol. So is the thin skin basically a 52 RI with a modern neck and modern wiring specs? Regardless, I now have another option thrown into the mix now. Thanks a lot...

Hey there ReddRanger,
That is one fine lookin' fiddle! In fact, your post was an important part of my decision to order a thin-skin tele from Wildwood :) Should be here in a few days! It looks to me like Fender has a real hit on their hands. Enjoy! ~Randy |

Aargh.
Dropped my accoustic at the music shop today and there she was... a butterscotch '52 just like this one. We don't see those in stores up here... ever. IMO it is the most beautiful tele model out there, period. I am litterally in love. The guy at the shop knows my passion for those darn teles so he says : don't try it, you'll buy it... 1699$ canadian. You are one lucky man.

I have the exact same guitar that Wildwood shipped to me all the way to Nepal. It's now my number one! I've even brought it all the way here to Haiti where I'm working now for a year.
