Guitars that BOTHER you!

OK, we all got 'em--guitars we just don't like. Here's a poll, let us know of this list which ones don't do it for you.

Feel free to add a post if there's something else out there that really bothers you!!

I like to keep it simple,...

...so most of the pointy headstock guitars don't raise my GAS-O-meter, but if they were the last guitars on earth, I would play one for sure.
I like all the classic models from the classic brands, but that doesn't mean I hate everything else. I even like the original body- and headless Steinbergers!

Cheers,

J.J.

You misspelled "Rickenbacker."

I was just at Sam Ash and Guitar Center today, trying to decide between 330/360 and 6/12 strings.

I love the older steinbergers too. Wish I could find one for myself. I don't care much for the new Gibson owned ones with wooden necks, kinda defeats the purpose to me.

Okay later

Hardly. The USA made stuff is top notch gear. I know this is sacrilegious around here but I'd say that they are much better made guitars than a lot of Fenders. You may not like the looks but they sound and play awesome. Even some of the NJ series guitars are pretty darn nice. Of course the $99 guitars are junk just any other $99 guitar.

I had to vote for Ricks - they are just ugly and have miserable necks.

The Rickenbacker neck is one to master...once you do, they're very rewarding. I really hate Les Pauls, Exlorers and the shredder guitars. I'd play anything else, and be happy.

Which model provides more resistance when being smashed against a stationary object?

The 660-12 will eat a 330/330 alive!!

Kevin, unless you've got REAL small hands & thin fingers and are willing to settle, don't buy a 360-12 until you at least try the Rick 660-12. Read up on 'em--play one, and you'll see what the raves are all about.

I lucked out and got a 2001 Desert Gold 660-12 that is GORGEOUS and nails any 60's 12-string tone you ever heard!

Good Hunting!!

I know I'm gonna get fried for this, but...

I have to say that, IMHO, PRS guitars are so overrated. Some of them look OK (the Birds are really nice looking), but NO new, non-single-craftsman - made guitar should cost that much! To me, though, the most dissapointing thing about PRSs is the sound. In going for something that is in between a Les Paul and a Strat ( mahogany/maple cap & 25" scale), they seem to have managed the worst of both - nasal HB sound without the 'balls' of a LP, and nowhere near the 'zing' of a 25.5" scale , SC-equipped guitar.

Just my opinion, and worth every penny you paid for it!

There are a couple that dont turn me on

1. The Guild Roy Buchanon Tele - Thats just a butt ugly guitar
2. Peavey- Those Eddy Van Halen Peaveys are just plain crappy and in my opinion stupid guitars..
3. Squire - Those big headstock cheapo strats..they just rub me the wrong way..they look low rent
4. Any Gibson with a fenderish headstock...it just aint right.
5. G&L Headstocks - There just too long
6. Shon Guitars - Talk about hockey sticks and an ugly body
7. Fender - Teles with a strat headstock. I think there too strange looking and they just dont seem to flow nicely
8. Any guitar with a Floyd Rose Tremolo - I just hate them trems...I dont like any tremolos or guitars that tools are required to use.

As much as "SG's Ain't My Thang", I'd have to go with pointy headstocks. I think reversed pointy headstocks look just goofy.
I can't look at a BC Rich but that's because it reminds me of the hair styles I had in the 80's (don't ask)
Several Ibenez guitars are on my list. Namely the "Dimebag" models, especially with the "Dime Slime" finish.

As usual, it's just my $0.02 (Canadian, so it might be worth less to you with the exchange)
And of course, YMMV.

You misspelled "Rickenbacker."
It was spelled with an "h" (Rickenbacher) from 1934 till 1949, then in 1950 they changed the "h" to a "k" and spelled it "Rickenbacker".
The story of why they changed the spelling had something to do with WWII. Adolph Rickenbacher (the Founder of Rickenbacher) was from Switzerland, he and most of the Swiss-American Rickenbacher's, changed the spelling after the war from the German spelling(Rickenbacher) to a Americanized spelling(Rickenbacker). That had something to do with a famous WWI flying pilot Eddie Rickenbacker, he spelled his name with a "k". Rickenbacker also put out a model of guitar around the same time as the name change that was called the "Flying Ace".
I have two Rickenbacher steel guitars and three amps that have it spelled with an "h", they are all from the '30s and '40s and are great instruments.

Wow, I can't believe the hate towards the pointy headstockers. I went through a period where I didn't care for 'em. But I've come around and have to say I really dig 'em. Since I learned to play in the 80s on a Kramer and Robin (sorta rounded-off point in the wrong (up)direction) along with my Tele Custom, I guess it's natural that I have a spot in my heart for them. I REALLY want a Jackson Soloist! I agree that PRS's are way overated and waaaay overpriced. I had one back then and sold it. Nothing special. Les Pauls are cool but just feel odd to me. I would like to own one but would probably spend more time looking at it then playing it.
