The Dean Cadillac!

To me the Dean Cadillac has to be one of the worst looking creations ever (and I like Dean guitars a lot). Why does a Les Paul shaped guitar need a point? I understand that the headstock is typical Dean/cheasy, but that body is rediculous, IMO.

And don't shoot me, but the Tele shape has never been my favorite, either. I am very glad that I finally own one and I do enjoy the sounds that only a Tele can produce, but the shape still hasn't grown on me and probably never will. (...running away/ducking for cover)

the warlock 80

ricky's look small and fragile ,like they would snap like a matchstick,if you really wanked it..

B.C. Rich guitars look cheap and cheezie .. cant stand the sight of one... but it could be fun to tape a whole bunch o M-80's to one .. and record the moment for posterity...

I don't know... I was sitting around playing some clean fingerpicking stuff with a ping-pong stereo delay last night (running into a Peavey C30 and my old Harmony 200) and the guitar that sounded best was my 1986 Kramer Pacer Custom -- no pickguard, pointy headstock, flat fingerboard, black Floyd Rose, and all!

It's not the guitar; it's what you do with it.

This thread makes me even more determined to buy a Ric.

B.C. Rich

B.C. Rich is really taking a beating on this thread, and given the amount of cheapie guitars they've been cranking out, they deserve it. But a buddy of mine had a US made "soloist" Strat-style in high school (still has it) and it's one of the best guitars I've ever played in my life. Some of the guitars they made in the late 70's to the mid 80's were the best money could buy at that time. Were most of the shapes cheazy? Sure. But they were top notch, custom shop quality all the way.

Neck-though "vintage" B.C. Riches for your viewing pleasure. Note the the three different kinds of wood that was his trademark (the neck-through wood, the "wing" pieces and the maple that seperates them all). Not for everyone, but cool nonetheless, IMO:

Hey Bad! That was a cool album in it's day

I didn't even notice that you liked the Dean Caddy before I posted my response. Sorry about that. Different strokes, as they say.

The Crue photo was a bit lopsided,

So in the interest of equal time, I added the buckeroos.

Yea, the Caddy is cool, except for that gawdawful headstock.

Actually the glass houses thing was MY point. I certainly wasn't trying to defend Motley Crue. Rather, I was trying to point out that everyone's beloved Tele players can look just as ridiculous. Keef is my hero but he looks like a dork most of the time. And c'mon, Marty Stuart looks like a cross between Liberace and Wayne Newton. I'm picturing candelabras on his Tele.

Still is. But to slam Marty for the Nudie suit and Keith for lookin like he's smoked it all snorted it all, mainlined it all, drank it all, and lived to tell about it, well that just ain't right!

Oh. Point taken. How many guitar heroes (Eddy?) got that way because they were to gawky, goofy and just plain wierd to have a girlfriend? So they just ended up locked in the bedroom playing for hours and hours. Then they got the girls. Well, everybody except buckethead.

Guitar Center Guitars

I think the best place to find the worst guitars is Guitar Center. It's OK to buy stands and straps there, but their guitars are never set up, they are usually missing stuff, the place is a nightmare of noise and uninformed salespeople who know nothing about what they are selling. I once visited a GC and asked a sales guy about a Roland guitar synth and it was like gazing into the eye of a chicken. He pointed me to their wall of stomp boxes. That was it. My advice is to find a decent smaller shop that carries quality lines and support them.

You speak the truth regarding GC. I was there the other day and they are blowing out the Gibson Custom Shop Peter Frampton signature Les Paul. The list on that thing is over 5300 and they had 2300 on it. I picked it up and it was laughable. You could slide a penny between the first first fret and the first string. That guitar played horribly. It might have been a good slide guitar. No wonder they were blowing it out. Let me see if I understand the logic - rather than spending 20 minutes with some nut files we'll drop the price 1500 or so - makes sense.

PRS guitars bug me, mostly because they seem to be marketed as "upscale" instruments - kinda like the "BMW" of guitars.

Hey everybody - look at me! I'm playing a real expensive guitar!

One of the things I like about Tele's is that they were originally designed to be affordable: the "people's guitar".

I'm thinkin' there are worse things that bother me than a guitar. I just don't prefer any red guitars, but they don't bother me. If it plays and sounds decent..it's good in my book.

Speaking of P.o.S, anyone had a good look at Gibsons new(ish) digital Les Paul?

Checked out the web page. I'm torn. The IT geek in me thinks it's great bring art and tech together - the guitar player feels its wrong wrong wrong.

I wonder if you ever have to boot your guitar?
