Girlfriend's Dad's Tele (big pics)
While visiting my girlfriend's family in Wisconsin, I got to spend some time with her dad's Telecaser.
It's a 1958 neck with a 57 body and pots. He got it used in 1960. It's been re-finished and refretted. Also, a new decal was ordered in the 70s or 80s from Fender. The bridge pickup went out in the 70s, so a replacement was put in. Original ashtray, case, strap, most everything. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers, Ben Adrian |

Here is my advice to you. Marry that girl & stay on her father's good side.

Cool guitar, no doubt. Nice case too. FWIW, that strap might have vinyl end pieces and may not be the best thing for the finish. Why don't you buy him a nice vintage style Levy's or something?
But play along everyone. Let's say you found this guitar for $100 at a garage sale or your cousin gave it to you or whatever. No sentimental issues. What would you do with it? Do you leave it stripped or do you restore it to its original blonde? Do you re-replace the decal? Swap out the bridge pickup? |

it NEEDS to be played. it looks too damn clean for a 50 year old guitar. it looks like it came out of the conservative 80s. all that side, it's prob still worth quite a bit. and also i'm with allen above, get that man a real strap as a gift.

Her dad called tonight. He said he'd been playing and had actually plugged it in tonight. After it had basically been under the bed since the 80s, I'm glad to see it getting some love.

Thats the way alot of people did their Fenders in the mid 60's.
Just painted the body with paint remover rubbed jt off with steel wool and finished it with some varnish like you would use on wood floors

I'd have the body finish restored and probably leave the decal alone seeing that it was ordered from Fender as a replacement. I'd then hunt down an original guard and pickup. |
