Mighty Mite Finish question

I just got a couple Mighty Mite Tele necks to play with!
1 maple and 1 rosewood.
They are just the basic plain old neck from MM.
I cannot find any info on it, but does anyone know if these necks are
ready to be stained/colored, or do they have some sort of sealer on
them I need to sand off first before they will accept stain?
Thanks
Jason

So, does a "sealer" have to be sanded off to bare wood if I wanted to
stain a color into it?

Probably a Vinyl sealer, but I wouldn't worry too much about that, cause I think you would be better off looks wise, by tinting your clear coat and not trying to stain bare Maple....JMO

I keep hearing both sides, even on this forum?
Color wood, then clear coat, or
tinting clear coat.
Anyway, back to the question.
If I do want to stain if properly, does the sealer have to be sanded off?
Thanks

You can always test a spot on the heel.

I personally could never get the wood to stain the correct shade I wanted, I have had much better luck with tinted laquer, just go easy on it and lightly fog it. You can always darken it but if you go too much you have to remove and start over. Plus you won't have to sand off the sealer.

I've used a maroon 3M hand scuff pad to take the edge off the MM factory seal finish. Seems to work well as a prep before staining. After some stain a coat of Tung Oil to seal and all is right with the world. Works for me, YMMV.
