Squarecaster thinline: If you combined these, would it stil be a tele?

I kinda did that, combined an idea from here

and another one from here

http://www.tdpri.com/forum/1098278-post66.html
with quite limited building abilities and cheap parts.

I bet you can't wait to see what I got. It's transparent, a bit boxy but astonishingly enough it sounds like a telecaster. Pictures will follow.

Kinda reminds me of the Gretsch Bo Diddly guitar.

Checked this thread just before getting to sleep... now I don't know if that was such a good idea...

It may not be a Tele, but I like it!

Bo Didley-esque, sort of? Well that's what I thought of when I looked at the pics.
Well done!

Uh....., how does it sound?

I'm pretty sure no one in their right mind would call that a telecaster. But there are few tele-lovers in their right minds.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I do like it.

EDIT: What's the stuff inside the lower bout?

It's grill cloth leftover from Quad Reverb project. I'm in the middle of thinking of something to stuff in there to cover ugly wiring. I just threw it in there, maybe I sew a little purse of it to hide the wires into?

Another idea for this old hippie would be plastic flowering plants or sumthing sorta.

The body is made of glue laminated pine. Cost me 5 euros. Front and back covers are 2 mm thick acryl, left over from thinline pickguard. I did buy that quite liberally I guess.

Neck and other parts except the neck pup is from Squier Affinity tele (1996). It cost me 80 euros. Neck pup is a Wilkinson (clear out sale, 10 £). Pups are wired out of phase.

Paint is Motip acrylic laquer, and clear coats are of same brand. Rattle can stuff. I hate painting.

EDIT: oh yes, these elegant v-shaped strap holders are from the eighties. Maybe a first innovation towards strap locking systems.

Man, that's some nice work!

Only thing I'd do is add a cross section, so the control cavity and the bridge pickup cavity are connected, so you could guide the wiring through that.

I like tuuur's idea for hiding the wiring.

If you want to hide the wiring , simply drill 4 channels around the edge .

Humbucker to neck socket corner / necksocket corner to opposite corner / corner to control area / controls to side .

That way you wouldn't see the holes , or at least only have one hole to fill from corner to controls ..

You could tie them to a slinky necklace or plug chain to pull them through .
