Count me out...I don't think heavy guitars=better tone. I prefer a nice 7lbs great sounding Tele to a 10lbs great sounding Tele.

I'd never even considered weight as a factor in tone until I started visiting this site. Some of my guitars were/are lighter than others, but they all sound fine so I didn't give it much thought. Certainly never put it on a scale to get it down to the ounce. I always left it up to my back to let me know when a guitar was too heavy. YMMV.

I just knew the term "chubby chaser" would come up as some point! LOL

I like the lighter ones myself. I've had my share of heavy guitars...even a few 70's LP Customs that were over 14 pounds. But a nice light tele seems to vibrate in the hands. Body, neck, everything. I just happen to like that feel...not sure if it does anything to the sound though.

Except for mellecaster, this thread is not what I expected.

It's just more to love!
Seriously, I don't search out heavy guitars...my current #1 is a Thinline. It's on the heavier end of Thinlines though. I certainly avoid overly light guitars...they just don't seem to ring as well to my ears. I'll take average to above average please.

I don't weigh my guitars. As long as a Tele doesn't weigh as much as a Les Paul, I'm fine.

Yeah I never really think about weight with guitars, certainly not when buying one, just doesn't even enter my mind if it is light or heavy. If it sounds and plays nice that's all I'm worried about.

I think my Squier Tele is on the heavier side of things, my Vester Esquire is the lightest of my guitars and my '54 reissue is somewhere in between.

Takes about an hour of standing with my Squier Tele before my back starts complaining so it's fine, but anything heavier and I don't know if I'd cope very well, I'm only skinny and have a bit of a dodgy back from years of BMX riding so I doubt I'd ever go looking for heavy Teles specifically.

Never weighed a guitar in my life .

It would be slightly hypocrytical to accuse a guitar as being heavy , when every day , my belly grows

When you own a Les Paul and a bass , all teles are light

i had a 10+-pounder i played six nights a week for two years in a house band ... but i was a mere youth of 40 then! since then, my chubby-chaser days are over -- my taste now runs to 7 to 8-pounders.

i like 'em with a little weight on 'em.

guitars, i like light...a light guitar just seems to vibrate more in my hands...like it's alive or something...it's why i'm currently so hooked on my thinline, and why i'm seriously eyeballing a '52 RI at the local GC that has to be just over six lbs...it's ridiculous...not the prettiest piece of ash, but damn, is that guitar alive.

My Amer. Ash Tele is a pig. I never weighed it but it's heavy. Since I'm just a wannabe play badly in the privacy of my own home type guy the weight's not an issue. I can see how working musicians would get sick of a heavy guitar after a few sets. Anyway, it sounds great unplugged. I always grab it when the wife is sleeping and practice a without the amp.

Yikes, I didn't think this thread was about guitars OR figures!

But, that would kinda fly in the face of our bylaws, wouldn't it?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, I am in the "never weighed a guitar" camp. I do know that I have played some (hollow-body) that feel too light, and shift around while I'm playing. Others (including my semi-hollow Crestline) are not what I would want for a long set. Ouch.

When I saw that title I thought you were talking about my ex-wife.

I love my 6 1/2 lb Tele. I love my 8 1/2 lb Les Paul. Don't really give it much thought.

My 77 Tele Custom was 10 Lbs. After I got my MIJ Squier I hardly ever played it, so it's gone.

Speaking of "fatties:"
