My other #1 choices: 1. Bonnie Raitt 1. Dale Watson (who Redd has also played with... dayum.) 1. Asleep at the Wheel (Ray's actually an old friend and near-neighbor from Austin, but he's quite the guitarist himself, so he doesn't need any more six-string help. But boy, that band sure pumps out a TON of FUN energy onstage.) Okay, that's off the top of my noggin. I'm sure I'll think of some others. (Hey, wishes are free, right?) - CS |

Mine would be behind anyone that was playing the Opry...
Heck, I'd sweep the floors there as long as I got to stand on that stage... A girl can dream can't she? If it had to be one specific artist it would be Johnny Horton. I've wanted to be Grady Martin since I was little. |

Neil Young without a doubt!!!
Apart from being my all time favourite I think I could get away with the occasional sloppy playing..... I saw him Stockholm Tuesday starting off his solo tour. It was nice... HArald |

I see Swedish critics didn't like him because he did his new material instead of a greatest hits. A bit pathetic. I can understand an audience of middle aged fans being disssapointed, but the newspapers should have staff a bit more avantgarde than that. Ok, arguably those were the tabloids. I wonder what the Norwegian critics will say... Geir :) |

Well...
There's a number of great artists I would love to be on stage with. Keef, Springsteen, etc. But I think really I would want to play with someone like Buddy Guy, someone that would notice that I was there and play with me rather than in front of me...
A lot of people I admire cut their teeth with those guys (Bonnie Raitt did with Buddy), because they were willing to share. Somehow I am not so sure that most superstars would care. Of course, I wouldn't mind all of that just to share the stage with the Stones. I'd be scared out of my wits though... Geir :) |

The band I´m in now
But after we got famous, and could afford people to do all the boring bits, like driving and putting the gear up and down. And after we´ve gotten better at playing as well...
But in never never land, once in a lifetime...... lemme see. Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, Dale watson.....I´d love to play with Johnny Cash, and Marty stuart, Redd Volkaert, just backing and learning.....And I really like David Byrne, on a totally different tangent.....Frank Black, And It would be great to do some stuff with Mark Knopfler, as well, and Dolly Parton...Emmylou Harris, Paul Simon....yeah thát would be a great gig. Dream Gig
How timely!! I just woke up from a wild dream about a casual I was gonna play at a hotel ballroom and guess who else was gonna be on guitar? Eric Clapton and Albert Lee!! But as is common in a lot of my dreams.. we never got to the playing part - we were just setting up gear. Maybe I'll go back to sleep

Number one would be the gig Jimmy Herring has right now.
Vocals and rhythm guitar for the New Riders of the Purple Sage would be fun. Second guitar to Richard Thompson just so I could listen to him all night. Being good enough to back Roger McGuinn and honor Clarence's memory. Playing lead for Paul Kantner's Jefferson Starship or for David Crosby (but I'd have to be really good to replace Jeff Pevar) Playing lead for the Jim Cudy Band (Blue Rodeo singer's side project). Rhythm guitar for John Forgerty for a tour. Second guitar for Bruce Cockburn. (The Canadian who's name cannot be written here) Lead in Jimmy Cliff's band. Guitar for Steve Winwood. One good band that incorporates elements of all the above. |

I had a dream once
Last year sometime I had a dream that I was standing around backstage at some weird show where there were a lot of acts, including Clapton. I remember one snippet very clearly. The stage had wooden floors, looked like a big high school auditorium in a building built around the turn of the century. So the stage was in the basement, small windows way up by the ceiling (because that's the only part above ground level), the walls were painted a weird blue color and there was that weird faded seafoam green paint on everything metal. Looked like it was painted in 1962.
The show was one of those setups where they have weird acts playing together for just a few songs, and when Clapton took the stage he had Slash as his rhythm guitarist. One of them got pissed with the other and Slash walked off the stage in the middle of the first song, and somehow I wound up on the stage with someone else's guitar and trying my best to catch up. I think we played just one more verse and chorus and then the song was over and I thought we were leaving the stage, but that wasn't the case. Instead we started playing "Green Onions", and I remember thinking "Man, this is a great guitar, I get better and better every second." See, I knew it had to be the magical guitar because I'm not that good of a player! |

How about rhythm guitar for BB King?
Or utility player for a really great songwriter like Mary Chapin Carpenter (love John Jennings lead work, though) I had a dream a number of years ago that I was playing guitar for Little Richard, using a red Tele. Having recently purchased a red Nashville Tele, I am reminded of that image. LR would be a fun gig....onstage.

The Beatles!
Number one, playing with the Beatles back in the day.
Other than that I'd say, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd. This will sound crazy but, take me back a few hundred years and let me be either in Motzart's or JS Bach's orchestras, or at least see them perform. |

Sheryl Crow
Delbert is one of the hardest working guys is the business and sure can find the groove. Mary Chapin is always surrounded by polished professionals. Both would be dream gigs.
I currently play behind a woman half my age who favors Sheryl Crow material. The "real deal" would be fun, too (and the age difference a bit less). |

For my dream gig, a little time travel is in order...
And to that end, I would like a gig anywhere in Las Vegas or Nashville circa the late 1950s/early 1960s with no one in particular. Just some smoky club or honky tonk with me, a bassist, a drummer, a pianist/organist, horns (for Las Vegas), steel guitar (for Nashville).
As a corollary to the above, I would love to be a session guitarist/bassist/baritone guitarist for any Owen Bradley-produced recording session during the same era. Ahh, the ultimate musical fantasies. Joel |

Dream Gig
The Band is scheduled to play at "the Last Waltz" and Robbie takes sick. I step in and away we go!
How's that for a stretch? On the country side, I'd love to play in George Jone's or Vern Gosdin's bands. Doug. |
