I know he does both on occasion, but how about ol' Keef? I always considered him the "rhythm" player and Brian, Mick, and Ronnie as the "leads"

Early Bob Dylan

And while he's known as a lead player, his rhythm work is stellar (in my book at least):

Jimmy Page.

Cornell Dupree, Steve Cropper, Pop Staples, Keith Richards, Curtis Mayfield, Tommy Tedesco, Funk Brothers Joe Messina and Eddie Willis to name but a few. Of course most, if not all of them also play lead but how many players just play one or the other? Not many who I would consider 'complete' players.

Frank Black/Black Francis
Rick Parfitt
Hugh Cornwell (though some of his solos are sublime)
Robert Quine
Wilko Johnson (though he mixes lead/rhythm)

+2 on Steve Cropper!

Didn't David Knopfler play a tele on the first couple of Dire Straits albums? His rhythm playing was fairly important in the mix to allow his big brother to fill the holes!
