Who needs guitar effects - Wilko Johnson

No need for effects with a Tele...

yep, no effects necessary when you become *one* with your guitar

That guy just floors me. He may not exactly be original, but he has a unique style and he knows how to rock!

Wilko is a great guitarist and gets an awesome tone out of his Tele. He gets a brighter tone out of his thumb and fingernails than most folk get out of using a plec.

Isn't that Norman watt Roy on bass? He is the purveyor of some of the most sublime bass playing especially with the Blockheads. The bass line to "Hit me with your Rhythm Stick" is a corker

Thanks! That made my day...Rock AND Roll with just the right amount of "self indulgent" guitar solos and theatrics, PUNK Rock without the silly hair, clothes, and self-concious posturing, and that tone that sounds like electrified wires (it is really)!!

Why couldn't Pub Rock have taken-off in the states?

As Wilko let's you see, the only effect you really need is:

A COILY CORD!

That does it, I'm gonna go get me one...

And the amp didn't even have tubes, at least not back in the day (AFAIK).

I saw Wilko on Saturday night ; he is still a fantastic performer. Yes, Norman on bass with him.
If you go to his website www.wilkojohson.org.uk you can see him explain just how he does it ! Mind you, when I try it's nothing like as good !!!!
