B-16 Bigsby Casters - let's see em, let's hear about them
I just put one on my avatar-guitar and changed the center Pup to a Filtertron . . . it is like a whole new guitar: the tone is better than ever (which is probably due to the rewiring) but the way the strings give is fantastic.
My only problem is that the neck shim is tilting the neck in a way that makes it ever so slightly more difficult to make certain chords . . . anybody else experience this? I think I might try making a flatter shim but am afraid that that would result in too little break-angle. Anyway, I would have pics but my camera battery died and the charger is at my wife's work. Let's See Em!! |

I still don't know how to put pictures on here...anyway...
http://picasaweb.google.com/dstusnic...24379813936162 The Bigsby was "thinned" a bit so a very small shim was needed. It cut back on the angle over the bridge, but she works fine. The Bigsby also had to be squared where it wraps around the body. Customs had sharp edges, not rounded.

Here's mine:
![]() - yes, it does require A LOT of neck shimming to provide sufficient break angle, and yes, it does change the tone quite a bit (away from Tele-twang, more towards a Gretsch-y vibe). Oh, and making this B16 work was a pain in the proverbial back-end - so many little issues and problems that had to be fixed, I don't even wanna think about it any longer... No way I could have done this in pre-Dremel times... |
