Acoustic-Electric Tele
Anyone have any info on these? All I know is that they were made Japan in 1996, and distontinued. Maybe a anniversary model? I have a chance to buy one for $375.00, but wanted to get some input from my fellow forumites. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There are two different types I know of. One has a hollow body - big sound hole in the middle, like an acoustic guitar - these are currently being made, or were last year at least. The other kind is a "thinline tele" body (ie it has an F-hole), but is a solid bodied guitar with a lace sensor in the neck position, and an acoustic styled bridge with a piezo pickup.
I owned one of the second type. Regret selling it. They were made in japan, good quality. The neck pickup sound was very bland to me, but I never thought to replace it. That would have made a world of different. The acoustic sounds were very good, and you could blend the two pickups to add more bass to your tone - warmed it up nicely. I sold it b/c it wasn't a rock guitar - but it certainly had character, and now I'm finding I could use one again! Tough to come by - they pop up every so often I guess. $375 is a steal in my opinion, if in excellent condition, w/ a case.

I had one of the Thinline ones
It's the red one in this picture:
![]() It's a very cool guitar. I ended up trading it to a fellow TDPRI member. I was primarily using it to help on a couple tunes that had both acoustic and electric parts. I really liked it but wasn't using it much once I got the Variax. Well worth $375 IMO. |

Is that a strat headstock? Mine didn't have a painted strat headstock... just a normal headstock with "Telecaster" on it. The neck bolt patterns are different for those guitars too...

Ashtray, the one you owned is it! Thanks for the reply. I'm going to check it out and play it on Monday. Regardless, at that price it's pretty hard to pass up.
I'll let you know how I make out. Doc |
