Calling all Nocaster RI owners...
I was thinking you guys could help me out...
I've started compiling serial numbers for Nocasters to get a sense of what numbers were released and when. Why? Something interesting to do, Nocaster obsessive compulsive behavior, and for the love of all things 51RI. (I'm not bothering with Cunettos as from what I understand, the numbers were in no particular order). ...and yes, I've got the Internet and Ebay ones covered. So if you would like, all I'm interested in is serial # and COA date and type. like this: 4/05 5440 NOS 11/06 7071 CC 1/08 7725 R You can post here or pm me: Thanks for any help. Short Answer....
It has the standard Volume/Tone combination (with the common 'reverse plate' configuration). The gibson toggle switch is the pickup selector. The first mini switch is a cut off switch for the neck pickup (i tend to turn it off and then use the pickup selector to flick the bridge pickup on and off). The second switch is a series switch which gives a very nice humbucker-esque tone. When combining the two mini siwtches I get a cool out of phase sound. (not sure what is techncially going on there). THE LONG AND BORING ANSWER..... The electronics were originally in my MIM tele which also has the brent mason style middle pickup with the separate volume control. I decided to migrate all of the custom electronics to the Nocaster to make it my perfect guitar. The bridge pickup is a Custom Shop Texas Special and the neck is a Vintage Noisless. I have no complaints about the Nocaster pickups, but just found that these pickups in the other tele were a lot louder than the Nocaster. Plus I like the combination. I find the Gibson toggle switch has a much faster action and suits my playing (lots of pickup changes) better than the tele one. On the MIM tele this was positioned on the lower shoulder of the guitar (tom morello style). I considered other options for the two mini toggle switches the series switch is very usable and sounds cool. I rarely use the 'kill switch' now, but i really love the out of phase tone i get by combining the two, so I'm happy to keep them as is. I really like having a middle pickup and was considering having a 'stealth' one put into the nocaster and having one mini toggle to turn it on and off. but I did not want to do anything to the gutiar that was unreversible (the control plate is from the MIM). So that's that... Sorry it's a bit ong winded. I really love customizing guitars and this setup is from years and years of fiddling and swapping pickups and LOTS of trial and error.... and LOTS AND LOTS of error. hehe If anyone wants more info, or just wants me to talk them to sleep... drop me a message.
