Building a Tele, First project, few questions
hi im currently working on a left handed telecaster and i have a few questions.
first off, I'm using maple instead of ash, and I'm wondering how much of the tele "twang" i may lose in doing this. secondly, i'm undecided on whether i want to screw the p/Ups into the wood, or if i want to attach them to a pickguard(this is my deciding factor to use a pickguard or not). finally, i'm wondering if anyone knows of any good websites to get electronics and parts( such as string ferrules, lefty bridges, and neck plates) thanks so much in advance for everyones help. appreciate it soooo much. ryan |

Not sure about the sonic characteristics of maple. But here's some guitar parts supply websites that might come in handy:

Welcome Ryan....Glad ya made it.....
Maple tends to produce a slightly "brighter" sound, so I wouldn't use pickups known for a bright sound too, you will wind up with a sound reminiscent of Cats screeching. It will be heavy too, like Les Paul heavy. As for mounting the pups, it doesn't really matter, just a matter of preference, although there will be those that will attribute specific sonic characteristics to either method of mounting ‘em. In my experience, it doesn’t matter a hoot, Ron Kirn
