New Tele and a new member

Hi,

I'm new here, but I've been lurking for a few months reading up on and looking at all the lovely Tele's. :)

I normally play bass (6 years) but decided to pick up a guitar to noodle on and record with, a tele seemed like the right one. I had a strat copy before and just couldn't get comfortable with it.

So, during my lunch break from work today I picked up my first Telecaster. Now, I think some debate that it's even a Tele but I think it is. Just a different reincarnation of it.

The guitar I got is a Fender Telecaster Deluxe '72 Reissue Factory Special (due to it's white finish which isn't normally available in the reissues).

It's very nice and comfortable for me to play and sounds great.

nice guitar, man. ive got the black one. let me know how you feel about the bridge pickup's tone. i had some complaints but after a real easy mod it sounds AWESOME. probably the 2nd best guitar ive ever owned....

(the 1st being a 1995 CIJ jaguar)

RESPECT.

Thanks

Hi noisemedia, which position is the bridge on the toggle. I'm not used to these three-way toggles. The sounds on mine are like, up - bassier, middle - more mids and treble, down - brighter and punchier. I prefer the middle or down position right now.

I heard that some people modify them with 500k pots (apparently the RI's have 250k's?) I might try that soon. Is this the mod that you did?

First off, congrats on the new Tele! It looks amazing! I bet it sounds great too. Buddy Guy plays one of those too.

I am curious as to this comment. What didn't you like about the Strat? If I remember correctly, your Deluxe has body contours & a neck like a Strat. Personally, I think you got a bad Strat copy and you're better off with a Tele anyway.

Nah, it was actually a good guitar. I just couldn't get comfortable with the body. I've played other strats since then and couldn't get used to them either. The Deluxe feels a bit more substantial to me. The only extra contour it has is the belly cut on the rear.

the neck pickup should be in the up position, and the bridge is down.

i removed the hidden pole pieces from the underside of the neck pickup becuz it seemed just way too bassy and muffled, with little definition on the lower 3 strings. this had a huge effect and improvement in my opinion, id say it sounds better then the bridge pickup now (also my opinion) and creates an interesting albeit pretty stark contrast between the two pickups now as well.

i havent touched the pots, i doubt i will as i like it just how it is now. it seems removing the pole pieces is actually alot quicker and easier to do (took me about 15 mins) than doing the pots but im no tech and def not an expert by any means.

anyway, i really like these teles, i think they look cool and sound even better with a few finishing touches...i may get around to the pots at some point but for now ill leave it as it is...anyway, enjoy. it seems these guys around here have a wealth of info on teles and guitars in general, ive been lurking around here almost daily since i found about this site.

all my questions have been answered quickly and pretty damn well id have to say....

Haha well actually my username is a nod to Joe Strummer, one of my favourite guitarists (and tele users).

I doubt that I'll be turning my back on bass anytime soon though, I've got 4 of the bloody things!
