Relay for Life Tele

i built and donated one last year for the raffle, and figured i could use some good karma, and do another one this year. i will be purple again (the survivor color), also with purple inlays. here are some foto's so far:

since my laser cutter is not set up yet i'll have to cut these inlays the old way with a dowel cutting bit.

the inlays installed in the fingerboard, and truss rod installed in the neck.

fingerboard glued on. tile setter's use these little wedges , and i like them for making sure the fretboard/neck blank joint is tight. plus glue doen't stick to them.

the neck with the side dots glued. also the roughed out body.

Pups

the neck is ready to carve this weekend, and the body is almost ready to spray, so i started on the pickups. i'm using an ABS strat bobbin for the neck. i was going to go traditional, but i hope some kid gets this in the raffle, and i doubt today's youth listens to buck and/or don rich albums. that said, most of the pickup work will be the bridge pup. it is a stew mac kit, but their magnets are lame, even after charging. i used long (and way more powerful) alnico 4 magnets for this one.

1. setting the bobbin height.
2. since the G string is always louder, i like to knock down that pole a little. did it with a plate jointer biscut.
3. using a form with wax paper underneath, i put hot glue in between the poles. this does two things. hold the pickup together better, and helps keep the pup from squealin'. plus it will heat up a bit and rebond with the coil when i vacuum pot the pickup.
4. the bobbins ready for winding, and one of my finished tele bridge blades.

Awesome. The value of karma-credit, and the peace of mind it brings cannot be got by any other means.

What's the Relay for Life? Cancer research?

EDIT: Found it.

Wow! Now that's a build from scratch :) No photos of you forging the pole pieces though?

Seriously though. Fantastic reason to build a guitar. I'm sure most if not all of us have a cause that's near and dear to our hearts. I applaud your efforts.
Adding to the karma reserve is never a bad idea.
