I actually like the smaller control plate. Single p-up, single volume control and single tone control. Very basic and functional. Makes more sense to me than the Tele control plate with 3 way switch, but that's just me, what do I know? Cool looking Esquire, in my book.

I like the short '51 tele bass control style plate too. You could use a rear routed body, flip the plate around to use a stock style pg. You'd either have to use long shafted pots or bore through the top to remove wood between plate and pots.
